I love Sinful Devils, it was my favorite Standard deck last rotation and I still play it pretty regularly in our casual group. It had the perfect blend of flavor and synergy, and it was hard to see it change with the format.

Devils and Demons splashed black and brought a few new tricks to the table, but now it's time for a proper modern update with some devil's from the original Innistrad block.

Here are changes and upgrades made from the original list.

Molten Vortex was great for Standard, but Seismic Assault is better. It isn't a one drop, but that extra cost plays well into Sin Prodder. For Modern, if I'm Red and Seismic Assault is on the list then it comes packaged with Crucible of Worlds and Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle. If I pitch land to Assault I get to play it back so I can stay on curve, and if Sin Prodder drops my land I don't lose it either. I kept the numbers low since this is not a primary strategy, but it's solid when the board is stalled.

The one drop slot went to Vexing Devil. No question about it, this guy is the epitome of Sinful Devils. As a 4 damage burst or a 4/3 creature it does work either way. Love it.

Hellrider can really raise some hell. Embermaw Hellion and Hellrider are BFFs. If you can get wide with Devil Tokens (like casting Devils' Playground with Pyromancer's Goggles for 8 tokens) then attacking with everything would deal 20 damage before combat damage is even assigned. Even just two tokens from Dance with Devils would be 8 precombat damage from the four attackers, then the actual damage would be up to 12 more. Awesome.

Gang of Devils is sort of a replacement for Gibbering Fiend . I like the Fiend, but the damage just isn't quite enough. Delirium just isn't reliable enough otherwise I'd make a case. I like how when this guy dies it's like a giant Devil Token that can spread damage around or just aim for the face. With a Hellion that 3 damage spread out to 3 targets becomes 6 damage with the +1 effect which is sweet.

Charmbreaker Devils ensure that the mid game doesn't stall out because you get you spells back. Having Goggles as well means you probably don't need very many turns of recursion from this, but I like how it ensures you always have a play.

Finally, Devil's Play is an absolute monster. This version doesn't just lose its land drops so that X cost could be huge. With Goggles that X cost could be lethal.

Modern Sinful Devils has more burst potential, better recovery, some favorite old tricks, some new tricks, and even more...Devils.
