Take to the Skies

Standard* Aggro Mono-Blue

kintighd

Ive seen this deck in a few places on here, and i thought I'd take a crack at building it. The main idea is pretty simple. The deck is a tempo build that looks to play cheap fliers, apply lots of pressure with them, then use control spells mid to late game, to keep the opponents field clear of any threats.

I've made a few changes that I haven't seen in lists on this site. I've added Thassa, God of the Sea, and Thassa's Rebuff. I added Thassa for a few reasons. When online she is a 5/5 indestructible. which is great news for this deck. When she is not online she is helping me stay away from clunky draws this deck is prone to.

I added Thassa's Rebuff because i think 9/10 it is equal if not better than the other counterspells out there. I'm going to be playtesting with it, and if i don't like it Syncopate and Negate will go in the open places.

As always all tips are appreciated. If you like the deck idea, try building it. From what I've seen on this site it is doing fairly well at FNMs

went 2-1 earning 4th place.

0-2 vs simic flash

G1: I was able to get a turn two 5/5 darksteel citadel, but one turn he flashed in a blocker and the next he dropped kiora was able to keep it at bay. I wasn't able to draw into creatures enough so he always had counterspells open.

G2: Just bad draws. I was never able to find a creature past a few ornithopters.

2-0 vs GW midrange

G1: he got mana screwed and i beat away at him with a few 1/1 fliers.

G2: this was a fair game, and bident of thassa really shined here. He had a spider with reach and deathtouch that was really pinning my guys down. Using bident of thassa i forced him to attack with it into a 5/5 darksteel citadel. And after that i was able to win the game pretty easily.

2-0 vs BW constellation

Pretty much both games were won because I was able to void snare or counter all the important pieces for the constellation engine. I also played a little conservative because I new she had kill spells, so i made sure after turn 3 to always leave mana open to cast a counter spell, or at least make it look like I had one.
