Leyline Phantom . Normally I'd say Crypt Ghast , but black doesn't look like a color we're running, and Leyline Phantom + Gyre Sage = fun.

February 23, 2013 1:15 a.m.

Not a great pack for us. I guess Nimbus Swimmer is the choice.

Leyline Phantom . has my vote. so many fun little cards in this pack, but alas, we must pick the one we're going to use, or likely going to use

February 23, 2013 1:23 a.m.

First off, this article just won me my draft tournament. Just seeing the decision making process helped soooo much. Now with that said, are we past splashing red? Act of Treason + Rapid Hybridization is silly. But I guess with staying on color Nimbus Swimmer gets my vote.

@ChiefWannaHacka - Be sure to tune in for the end, after all the matches are done. You get to see what everybody did and hear their thoughts.

February 23, 2013 1:34 a.m.

I sure will! Also, thanks for doing this. Limited formats seem to be where I have the most fun, and again this article just helped a lot.

oops, i must have skipped over Nimbus Swimmer . I'm changing my vote to Nimbus Swimmer.

Nimbus Swimmer gets the vote . . . gotta go with what works, and a big beefy flier late or a medium sized flier early gets bad fast.

Leyline Phantom is a good card, but he's common and niche enough that we'll see him again.

Nimbus Swimmer is such a threat. Can't pass it up.

DarkTyrany22 says... #10

I like taking Nimbus Swimmer here. I'd say it's 50/50 that we see either Snapjaw or Leyline Phantom on the next pick so that's acceptable enough.

What kind of luck(okay, results) have people had running Metropolis Sprite ? I've never played it, but it seems like little flyers are usually pretty dandy in limited format.

Nimbus Swimmer

Not too bad. Nothing else in here is great for us.

I was considering maybe the commandos since we might be splashing white but nah.

February 23, 2013 3:22 a.m.

Oh look, Nimbus Swimmer , something to pour our Gyre Sage ramp into late game or even midgame.

February 23, 2013 3:30 a.m.

Cirdan13 says... #14

I was just about to say the same thing. Nimbus Swimmer would be the first card that gives as a way to use the amount of mana we are hoping to be able to produce. I also like the Leyline Phantom but we are likely to see one again. And just a note it the situation arises. I have found that Metropolis Sprite and Way of the Thief have pretty good synergy especially if we can get a couple of gates but even if we don't it is still something to think about as we will probably have options on both cards again.

Metropolis Sprite is actually really solid -- he evolves 1-drops and carries Hands of Binding well. I always try to draft simic, and am always happy to play him.

that's just an aside, though -- if we're really simic splash white; it has to be either nimbus swimmer or leyline phantom. My vote is actually for Leyline Phantom , as it sees play in any deck running blue; it's one of the best limited commons in the set. Nimbus Swimmer is only good in a strongly simic deck -- there's a good chance it will table. And even if it doesn't, we may just want leyline phantom more -- he's a great beater, a great blocker, and he triggers evolve repeatedly

I'm leaning towards Nimbus Swimmer , but consider: Even if we're not going to run Crypt Ghast , it might be good to take it so that no one else can run it. Dude's pretty powerful, after all.

Voting for Nimbus Swimmer tentatively, but may change my vote later.

im voting Leyline Phantom .

I think I'm gonna be nutty and vote for Metropolis Sprite . I like it a little better than Nimbus, and I think it's less likely to wheel than Nimbus.

I wonder why we Caley didn't auto-pick card:Predator's Rapport ? We definitely have green and 3-10 more life can definitely come in more handy than a dead pick.

Anyway, Nimbus Swimmer .

February 23, 2013 5:43 a.m.

MagnorCriol says... #23

@RussischerZar - I think KrazyCaley chose correctly. Informer is actually a pretty dangerous threat and legitimate card, and I'm suuuuuper surprised to see it there as a next-to-last pick. Whole decks can be built around him. Rapport, on the other hand, is a situational sorcery that might gain us a handful of life, but also might be a dead draw when we're already behind and losing. Even against an aggro deck, I'd just want another creature. It's a pity, because the art is cool and the flavor text is pretty badass, but the card itself is. Ot good.

Anyhow. KrazyCaley, my vote is also for Nimbus Swimmer .

best card hands down Grizzly Specticall followed by Crypt ghats but were already looking at a greedy pool nimbus swimmer and layline phantom are fine but not great however I think the pick are between those 2 Nimbus Swimmer is probably better

my pick nimbus swimmer

Nimbus Swimmer all the way !!! It's always a good draw, and totally synergizes with our Gyre Sage .

February 23, 2013 7:13 a.m.

Nimbus Swimmer

Not as fast as Leyline Phantom , but in the long run it's easier on the mana pool.

I'm voting for Nimbus Swimmer . We have three other playables in this pack and the table seems open to Simic, so we should see at least one of them again.

Nimbus swimmer is the pick. If he wasn't here id go with the sprite. If you give it counters its ability gets stupidly amazing

February 23, 2013 1:02 p.m.

charsula says... #36

Act of Treason I would say is probably a better pick here, I can see that red is a splash but it definitely is a card worth splashing, as mentioned above that plus Rapid Hybridization is pretty sick, and if your opponent is running anything too scary, you can steal it and beat into their face then sac their creature along with you getting the 3/3(i think), or if facing a deck and we happen to pick up a Madcap Skills taking away a blocker and taking even more life away can be brutal. Just my thoughts

Nimbus Swimmer is uncommon while Leyline Phantom is common. the chances of ppl picking it or another one not showing up is pretty low. outside of simic, Leyline Phantom is a bad pick so that gives us a better chance of picking it back up later. plus Nimbus Swimmer is a great way to unload all that extra mana late game
