Was this just another rare thrown in the set cause nothing or does this card have any good uses? If so, like what?

It allows you to make a copy of another land e.g Inkmoth Nexus , Emeria, The Sky Ruin or any special land really.

Lets say you are playing EDH/Commander where you may only have one of any card that is not a basic land. Let's say you have a Cabal Coffers on the battlefield and are feeling greedy. Copy it with your card:Thespian's Stage and listen to your opponents groan as you pull far ahead in the resources race.

That's just one example. I play mostly EDH/Commander so I immediately go to singleton scenarios.

As an added bonus, it doesn't have to be your land it is copying. It can be any land on the battlefield including an opponent's.

An excellent example for Standard is to run it alongside Nightveil Specter . Use card:Thespian's Stage to copy your opponents lands, then play the cards exiled by Nightveil Specter

Nice idea might have to try that.

You can, but what if you mill three awesome cards under the one Nightveil Specter , but no lands? card:Thespian's Stage offers you the opportunity to "steal" one of their lands so that you can cast the cards. Remember that if NS gets removed from the battlefield in any way, those cards can no longer be played, even including by other NS's!

card:Thespian's Stage is great at a number of things. It mana fixes, it has synergy with Nightveil Specter , and it's harder to remove than a Realmwright , Chromatic Lantern , or Gilded Lotus . It can set you back a turn to copy the land you want so I wouldn't go playing it in a deck just because, but if you have the need to leech land from other sources or even just want to copy a shock land you can't afford a playset of, it's a really good to to card. I beat a player by copying his Hellion Crucible and slamming him with tokens. It works.

Having a second copy of Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle , card:Gaea's Cradle, Cabal Coffers , etc in EDH is pretty good.

you cant copy card:Gaea's Cradle as its a legendary land, well you could, but they would blow each-other up. and another Dark Depths (with a Vampire Hexmage out) would be nice, if they manage to kill the 20/20, spawn another.

You could Copy your opponents card:Gaea's Cradle though...

I'm sure the card will be used in affinity decks as well.

you can also have it copy your opponent's Cavern of Souls popping it in the process

MagnorCriol says... #18

You don't want to have it copy a Cavern of Souls . The Cavern only tells you to name a creature type as it enters the battlefield, which you don't get to for card:Thespian's Stage since it's not entering the battlefield again. It wouldn't copy the creature type your opponent named (that's not a copiable value), so you'd only be able to tap it for 1.

Just to clarify, you can't copy any gaea's cradle or dark depths, yours or your opponents, because of the legend rule. Though this might be a bit unrelated, will copying a legend with Lazav, Dimir Mastermind blow them up? I assume not, becuase just like Sakashima the Impostor it does not take the name.

You can copy those lands. It's perfectly legal. They would blow up, but as someone a little above pointed out, sometimes that's what you're trying to do.

You're correct about Lazav. The "legend rule" only cares about the name, and that's specifically why they included the mention of the name; there's no reason to do so otherwise.

And then they'll print a card that says "Target nonland permanent becomes a land in addition to it's other types" which will spell the end for planeswalkers while the card is out. Loljk.

No but seriously... being able to copy utility lands is brilliant... it shuts down legendary ones like Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Karakas and who doesn't want another Nephalia Drownyard if you're racing a mill-control deck? It's more of a threat than you'd expect, versatility is always a threat, which is why cards like Snapcaster Mage and Deathrite Shaman are so useful...
