Control monoblack in need for some advice

hello everyone, the last couple of days ive been updating all my decks and uploading them into tappedout.
Ive made a lot of changes to my monoblack control deck, the first deck that i post here. I like this new version but, there were a lot of cards that i love and didnt enter the deck, like Skeletal Scrying and Tendrils of Corruption. i also took Dark Ritual out of the deck. To have more space for actual spells. i also replace Gatekeeper of Malakir for Geth's Verdict, Because its cheaper, maybe having the 2/2 will be better.
also, i end up with 19 spells (instant and sorceries) and 18 creatures ( i count the Lashwrithe as a creature). Maybe for a control deck is too low removal and discard, maybe i need to have more of them and less creatures
so, what do you guys think. This is a casual deck to play with friends. but i tried to make it as strong as possible, i have strong opponents :)
all advice will be read and appreciated, but, right now i have no acces to other cards, so the maybeboard end up being all the other options.
ty all for reading
for what you say, i tihk i can cut some creatures for more removal, doing that my mana curve will decrease. Maybe adding creatures like Typhoid Rats any suggestion?

It’s hard to figure out what to suggest because i’m not sure what cards are available to you, and your current cards give no clear-indicator of budget.
Normally for a black deck i’d suggest filling your 1-mana slots with stuff like Fatal Push, Inquisition of Kozilek, Thoughtseize, and Cling to Dust. Black 1-mana creatures are normally pretty awful, so its often better-value to just make sure your opponent can’t make any progress.
In any case, with 23 lands, your ideal mana curve probably looks something like:
-
10-12 1-mana cards
-
12-16 2-mana cards
-
8-10 3-mana cards
-
3-4 4-mana cards

First put Dark Ritual back, it gives you access to 3 mana on turn 1. Since it’s casual you should rock a Sol Ring play set. Next you gotta run some better spells. I’d rock stuff like Innocent Blood.

Mono Black creatures do usually suck but stuff like Tombstalker could work well

Dark Ritual and Sol Ring are pretty questionable in a control deck - because control decks win through resource-advantage, and neither of these cards help with that. Unless you have some massive payoff you need to get-out asap, i’d steer well-away from ramp cards.
Also i didn’t say monoblack creatures suck - there are a bunch of good ones. I said that monoblack 1-mana creatures are generally bad

Tombstalker seems great , it will be very easy to play it for two mana only. Maybe having like 10 or 11 creatures will be a better way to go, than having more 3 and 4 mana creatures and less removal/discard

RockIV yeah strict control decks will often only be running 8-or-less creatures. The important thing there is to make sure you can stall the game out long enough with your disruption spells, and then make sure the few creatures you do run can finish the game.
In that regard something like Bloodghast is more useful to a black control deck than Tombstalker, because Bloodghast is a LOT harder to permanently deal with, and so resembles an inevitable win so long as you can maintain control of the game. Tombstalker just dies to the first killspell your opponent draws.

Bloodghast seems excelent, sadly i dont have it. i remeber in the past running Skinrender and Gatekeeper of Malakir as creatures in control decks. i will keep thinking how to improve it , using what i have. maybe Vampire Nighthawk and Lashwrithe dont belong to the deck

It’s not quite monoblack, but this list i’ve been running for awhile and is “almost monoblack” has served me really well, and might give you some inspiration.
The trickiest thing black struggles with in control is being able to effectively gain hand/resource advantage while keeping the opponent locked-down - so as long as your build is able to overcome that hurdle, you’ll be in good-steeds.

The biggest issue I see with the deck currently is that the mana curve is waaay too high. 10 cards costing 4-or-more mana is super excessive (most decks will want 4 at-most), and having almost nothing to do on turn 1 is going to mean you’re starting a LOT of games a whole turn behind your opponent.
I’d say working on drastically lowering your curve should be your top priority, and should lead to a big jump in power.
