Do you have a budget for this?

ojmandias says... #2

Max is $2 per card unless they are singletons like sorin, then $8-$9 is okay.

Ahh. Not sure how much help I can be then. You really can't afford Sun's champion with 22 lands. It's just bad in general in modern really.

This is definitely too expensive for your deck but I figured its worth mentioning in case you can find it somewhere for cheap:

Bitterblossom

Lol yeah way too expensive. And honestly I think the life loss is too significant to be worth it.

xzzane says... #6

Life loss actually isn't that big of a deal. Even if you had the budget though, I'd recommend against blossom.

My suggestions: I'd put two Suture Priest in the sideboard in case of Splinter Twin narfles.

I'd want at least one Hokori, Dust Drinker in the side for Tron matchups.

Brimaz, King of Oreskos seems slightly better at than Sorin there. If you must have an anthem planeswalker, Ajani Goldmane is much, much better. Or Hero of Bladehold.

Promise of Bunrei is a lot better than it first appears to be.

Harsh Sustenance looks like it could be a good removal card for your deck.

It looks like you have enough lands to get away with a single copy of Grave Titan, in the event that your matchups run a bit long. (Doesn't seem they do though).

Do not follow any of the suggestions that Kara just recommended.

I've actually had some luck with Harsh Sustenance, but only as a 1-of.

xzzane says... #12

In a high level of competitive play, harsh sustenance should not be used, even as a one of.

@KaraZorEl

Hokori, Dust Drinker comes down too slowly for me to run it against tron. Turn 4 they have tron and can slam down Karn and slowly kill me.

Sorin is better than Brimaz and ajani because it both gains you life as a side effect of attacking/blocking and it can make a token if we are behind. ajani's +1 is just a life gain which isn't that helpful in this deck, and +1/+0 and lifelink is better than +1/+1 counter and vigilance because nothing is going to be blocking our flying tokens anyway, and we already have vigilance from Intangible Virtue. Same goes for Hero and Brimaz, also their tokens don't have flying which gets us through the clogged ground against naya and jund

Promise of Bunrei requires us to devote T3 to it, which is when we slam down Timely Reinforcements or Spectral Procession or in late game, we need to have it on the field. Against Tron's O-stone it doesn't help and pyroclasm comes down early game not late.

Grave Titan isn't strong enough here, and its way too much mana. I'm already running only 22 lands with 2 utility lands that don't produce colored mana, I don't think I can stretch the mana to accomodate it.

@kameenook and xzzane

Harsh Sustenance is something I don't see the need for. If I need life when I'm ahead, im going to lose unless I slam down a sorin or a vault of the archangel anyway. If I need to destroy a creature, Path is better. I like running Mortify in that slot because it also deals with enchantments, which is super useful in my meta. It also requires me having at least 2 creatures out, which precludes it from being a turn 3 play unless I played Raise the Alarm, so i feel like its out.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and comments, and please remember to +1 if you like it!

I think you should try to make room for 1-2 more Sorin, Solemn Visitor. He is just ridiculous in B/W tokens.

ojmandias says... #18

As you can see that is noted in the future work tab. I'm probably going to wait for a month or two to see if I can get any better deals. It doesn't seem like they are dropping much right now, but hopefully by April they should. Thanks for the suggestion doozy!

You really need to update your description.

March 13, 2016 10:20 p.m.

ojmandias says... #20

because of the Twin matchup section?

March 14, 2016 12:05 a.m.

amazingdan says... #21

Partially. You have no matchups section for Eldrazi, your future works is pretty outdated, and your sideboard section is blank.

March 14, 2016 7:04 a.m.

I'd drop the two Suture Priest for two Secure the Wastes. I know they've spiked in price recently, but once they rotate out of standard, they should drop back to the $2 range.

I've thought about replacing them with Doomed Traveler or Blind Obedience now that twin is gone.

While playing with this deck, you should announce all of your turn phases, spells, and stacks in a Patrick Stewart voice. I find joy in thinking about this. Fun deck too, competitive and affordable.

May 19, 2016 1:21 a.m.

Not sure why you're running Celestial flare in the sideboard. It seems strictly worse than go for the throat, doom blade, or a lot of other removal because you can only kill attackers and blockers. Also, double white is probably not ideal for a 2-color deck, but I digress.

Playing hawks probably isn't worth it in a deck like this, unless you're going to go deeper into a lifegain strategy rather than a midrangey one.
