Land (1)

Live forever by activating The Book of Exalted Deeds on a creature land. Win by decking the opponent, or at least by threatening to.

Isochron Scepter

  • Isochron Scepter: Works well with the four different playsets of instants. Stalls for time before the lock, and protects the lock once it is out.
  • Surge of Salvation: Protects the lock, including the land, the Scepter, and the Book. Also prevents hand disruption and other threats that target you.
  • Pact of Negation: Protects the lock. Synergizes with not being able to lose the game.
  • Angel's Grace: Stalls for time. Enables Pact of Negation before the lock.
  • Silence: Stalls for time. Protects the creature land on the turn it is activated. Protects from late-game sorcery-speed threats, like Emrakul, the Aeons Torn.

Inevitability

  • Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre: There's a lot to say about this card, which is often unhelpful but sometimes necessary, especially in the kind of degenerate games this deck invites. It's usually a dead draw, but it's also a way to win if the opponent can protect themselves from being decked. It adds graveyard recursion, which can be helpful despite the fact that being decked doesn't necessarily lead to losses. It can turn ties into wins, like when the opponent has Gideon of the Trials. But it can turn wins into losses, like when the opponent has theft or clone effects. Counterintuitively, the fact that it is counterable makes it an upgrade over Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, since in some truly degenerate games you might want to counter it yourself. This lets you destroy one permanent each reshuffle and gives a reliable way to send Ulamog to the graveyard to trigger reshuffles.

The sideboard has an alternate wincon with Axis of Mortality and Shefet Dunes, which can replace Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre if the opponent has theft effects. Many decks have answers to this though, so it is not the main strategy.

The deck is not kind, but it is fun to build around. Any thoughts or suggestions are encouraged!
