Kaladesh Update —Sept. 30, 2016

Kaladesh brings two cards for consideration with Sygg, Fumigate and Dramatic Reversal. Fumigate will likely go in immediately once I get a copy. Reversal would require the inclusion of Isochron Scepter as well. While I'm not opposed to including the Scepter, as it has many great targets, I'm just not sure that's the direction I want to run with things at the moment.

-1 Skycloud Expanse, -1 Stonybrook Banneret, +1 Phyrexian Metamorph, +1 Island.

The Odyssey filter lands are almost strictly worse than the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor ones, save they are better with colorless mana. Seeing as colored mana is highly required for this deck, I run mostly colored sources, thus I don't gain much from including this card. The Banneret wasn't gaining me as much as I hoped, especially when I realized that she can gain me, at most, around 15 mana over the course of the game and only if I pull every Merfolk/Wizard and cast them all after casting her.

Metamorph is just a really nice clone effect that can hit pretty much anything. I like the versatility. Island is the most powerful card in Magic.

-1 Sword of the Animist, +1 Thought Vessel

Moving more in the combo direction, there are less attackers and I want more ramp artifacts. As amazing as Sword of the Animist is, I'm not convinced this is the deck for it at the moment.

njohnson2, thanks for the suggestion! Generally, if I'm casting Wanderwine Prophets, I'm taking infinite turns thanks to Stonybrook Schoolmaster. So, Azor's Elocutors would be a little superfluous. And, I'm looking to kill my opponents, not make them angry. :)

Hipparchos, thank you! Modern Merfolk is a ton of fun as well. I do try to keep things up to date on here as much as possible. I think this is still accurate as of this moment.
