Major Update! —June 26, 2016
Hello everyone! Major update to the Deck Description. Most of the card choices explained. Hope I give a little better insight into why I picked the cards that I did. Hope you guys like it!
Extra note: No Post SOI update. Besides Anguished Unmaking, nothing else really contributes to the deck. Please, if you think otherwise, drop me a comment!
Another note, I successfully obtained all 22 Expeditions I want to run in the deck. All 10 Fetchlands, all 10 Shocklands, Mana Confluence, and Ancient Tomb. Quite and expensive investment, but a beautiful one at that.
Thanks for all the support, you guys! You're the reason why I keep updating the deck. You're all amazing!
There are cards for specific decks, Superfriends for instance got a big boost. But nothing good Overall

Maybe replace Breath of Life with Necromancy and you get a second combo piece for the Worldgorger combo with the same effect for less mana. Another option is Life/Death similar effect with added utility.

Holtzman: Thanks for the comment! My thoughts exactly! There's nothing in the set that's worth using in every deck. No staples, so to speak. At least not in my opinion.

Necromancy is definitely an option over Breath of Life. I'll definitely look into using it. Life/Death is already up there! Thanks for the suggestions!

I see that you choose to use mana artifacts rather than mana creatures. I guess that is because artifacts are harder to destroy than a bunch of 1/1 mana dorks. Although, there are a couple mana dorks I would still recommend using: Bloom Tender and Sylvan Caryatid. If you cast Might of the Nephilim on Scion, and then turn him into Atarka, World Render, you can swing for 32 trample commander damage. I would recommend using Shizo, Death's Storehouse. If you give Scion fear, it makes him much harder to block if your opponent happened to have a flyer on the field.

Dance of the Dead works just like animate dead. Keen Sense works like Curiosity.

I do prefer artifacts, as they are colorless and do not require me to rework my mana base to better utilize them. The only dorks I would consider running would be Bloom Tender and Birds of Paradise, Tender for the multiple colors, and Birds for the
drop.
Might of the Nephilim has been suggested to me several times now, definitely need to check it out. Atarka, World Render is still one of those cards in the Maybe pile. I want her in, just can't seem to make the space. And I'm not too keen on Shizo, Death's Storehouse. Fear is nice, but nuking the board with Scourge of Kher Ridges works better!
Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm well aware, just no space to include "doubles". And personally, I would run Ophidian Eye over Keen Sense for the Flash, if I were to run a second one.

I run all 3. Following your logic though, you should run Necromancy over animate dead since it has a flash option. I like the redundancy. I use less dragons then you though. Why sweep the board with scion when I can combo kill the pod? Our decks are different though. I dropped stuff like Balefire Dragon and Nicol Bolas. I just found I never needed them. If I attack I expect to kill a player. If scion resolves, someone dies. Usually everyone else. I wish I had the lands you do, I will get them little by little I guess.

Some fates are worse then death. If you cast Cyclonic Rift then hit with Nicol Bolas that player will either scoop or just top deck the rest of the game. that is an effective combo I think. (though 9 CMC is a bit high). I have a combo focused scion deck that does not include the Worldgorger Dragon. Tell me, how effective is it in actual play. and let me see if I understand it correctly.
1) If you have Animate Dead in hand you turn scion into Worldgorger Dragon which puts it in the GY
2) Cast Animate Dead and let the loop go nuts (all of your permanents go off and on the field)
3) Every time your permanents ETB they do so untapped so tap all lands for mana every cycle.
4) When you feel like stopping target some other creature in a GY with Animate Dead (do you need to have a second target for Animate Dead? or the loop will be mandatory? that is how I understand it)
5) Turn scion into some thing to sink all of that mana into such as Shivan Hellkite and burn everything.
It looks like this only costs 4 mana and can be done the turn scion hits the field if you have 9 mana (5 to cast scion, 2 to bin worldgorger and 2 to cast animate dead) this combo wins the game. is this an accurate analysis?
If that is accurate then it looks like I need to add it, as it might be the strongest combo scion offers, not to mention Animate Dead is a good card in the deck anyways. the only issue is I really like my deck and don't know what to take out to include it. Thanks.

You pretty much nailed the combo. You don't have to have another target for animate dead. You can transform scion while it's on the stack, of course doing so puts another target in the graveyard. Considering there are 3 cards that can do this and several tutors that can fetch them; this should be win condition 1.

It is win condition 1. In my Scion deck. I run Buried Alive which is a cheaper way to bin Worldgorger Dragon and lets say Shivan Hellkite. It is possible to win off of turn 2 (extremely unlikely though). It is the combo to go for until you can play Scion. Once you play Scion, though, the win con becomes whatever you hand tells you to do.

Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius works better than Shivan Hellkite. This way if someone has Orbs of Warding or something else that saves them, you can draw an answer.

I do not see Dracogenius being strictly better, because you have to draw your answer, and if your opponent is going to stop you, the are probably going to disrupt you at the Worldgorger step of the combo and not at the Hellkite/Dracogenius step. This has been my experience with the deck.

I purposefully left Hermit Druid out. Hermit Druid is fun to play with, but no fun to play against. Plus, I wanted to build a Dragon tribal deck.

That is definitely true. However, Who shall I be when I devour your soul? isn't just meant for 1v1. Plus, I have a lot of things not legal for 1v1.
February 15, 2016 11:20 p.m.
And I don't think a Scion Deck would be viable in 1v1.

awesome deck +1. Only problem: the moneys :( I cry every time ;(

Marenkai: Your joking right? You cast Scion early then that turn or the next you use the molteensteel/skittles combo... GG. It is a garented turn 3-5 win every single game, how is that not good 1v1?
February 16, 2016 10:04 a.m.
Yeah, he's joking. there is no other explanation for such a whimsical statement. You could go molteensteel/skittles combo or Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind combo or Worldgorger Dragon combo. whatever you fancy. my Scion has a few easy to cast counterspells to protect the combos. it is so strong in a 1v1 game that it is actually kinda lame. just wait until they cast their commander then cast scion into Tyrant's Familiar attack and kill their commander. then on your next turn kill them. or just wait until thye are tapped out and go Worldgorger. GG. after 3 games of that I'm done. in multiplayer there is enough enteraction and disruption and down right shenanigans to keep things interesting.

Thanks to everyone who's been replying to comments for me while I've been away. I promise to be better at replying. Work has just left me drained every day.
On that note, anyone else think there's not much to offer in terms of EDH for Oath of the Gatewatch? I mean, some interesting new Generals came out, but nothing in terms of overall usefulness.
