Let me start by saying I have played mono red in historic for a long time now, every expansion I made a new mono red burn style deck. I have never made it to mythic because I would get tilted and sometimes I would run into too many decks just preying on mono red too often. But after I saw the new Wayward Guide-Beast and saw people saying it is an unplayable Goblin Guide, I wanted to make it work.

So welcome to, in my opinion the fastest most consistent deck in Historic BO1. I've won a large amount of games with my opponents playing only 1-2 random spells before they're dead. This deck really comes together because of Wayward Guide-Beast which allows us to run a very small amount of lands because I would count Wayward Guide-Beast as a land. The reasoning is you can play a spell on your first mainphase, then pick up the land you tapped and play it again, essentially creating a mana if we are only on one land. Just make sure you don't attack with it turn one.. so if I have two in hand I will play one turn 1, not attack then start attacking with both turn 2 essentially negating a trigger and playing something mainphase 2. This also restricts us to spells that cost one mana. So thus we are basically one drop tribal. Every card in our deck can be played for one mana. which is why we can get away with 14 lands. Also before I explain the card choices, I'd like to say I almost never mulligan if I have at least one real land. A hand with one land and Guide-Beast is the dream and does show up often enough. But even if I just have one land and no guide-beast, I usually keep and win a large amount of those one land hand games (usually drawing a land before its too too late is the hope)

Anyway our one drops are actually pretty efficient, this deck is just threat city. We have so many efficient threats which is why this deck is so consistent. We got some pirates, Rigging Runner and Fanatical Firebrand. Rigging Runner is basically a 2/2 first strike, which is pretty efficient and Fanatical Firebrand has always been a good hasty, versatile aggro drop and can trigger Spectacle or ping random creatures. We also run Scorch Spitter, its just a good aggro one drop that attacks for 2 and can trigger speculate easily.

The next package we have is wizards. These are Ghitu Lavarunner, Soul-Scar Mage and Grim Lavamancer. We like wizards becasuse they are good one drops and they turn on Wizard's Lightning. Lavarunner quickly becomes a 2/2 haste which is pretty strong (I will usually try to play all other one drops until it can become a 2/2 haste), Soul-Scar Mage is a good prowess threat and gets around indestructible, and finally only two Grim Lavamancer because its a bit slower and mostly good for going over the top after our beatdown plan has been shut down.

Finally Wayward Guide-Beast rounds out the one drop beater as a 2/2 trample haste and like I said, its basically a land AND probably the best card in our deck. Our deck really only needs 2 lands, and this guy lets us play two cards a turn with only one land in hand. I have won so many games with literally only one land just being bounced by a Guide-Beast. If you have two lands in hand sometimes I will just pick up and play only one so they don't know how many lands we have in hand and might prioritize killing the Guide-Beast over another creature. Now don't forget that it has trample. Definitely relevant, especially with Infuriate and stops the cat oven from being as annoying. This is literally the best card in the deck, always happy to see it. If you have two in hand, I usually like going turn 1 Guide-Beast, turn 2, Guide-Beast, attack for 4, pick up the land and play another threat. Like I said, if I didn't have this card, this deck probably wouldn't exist, as probably we would have to replace the Guide-Beasts with actual lands...

Next for the spells, well you can see. They're all pretty basic spells in burn decks, except for Infuriate which is an amazing combat trick that has saved my creatures from Shock or Bonecrusher Giant or Lightning Strike range more times than I can count and just won me the game on the spot.

Last we have Obosh, the Preypiercer because its free and it can help get in extra points of damage
