FNM#16 —April 20, 2013
Big tournament tonight (67 people with six rounds), so I didn't stay long since my ride wasn't feeling well.
Round One: G/W Humans
A lot of protection from black (he had four Knight of Glory mainboard) and/or first/doublestrike. I lost this round 1-2. Game one, I was forced to mulligan to six after opening a hand with just Cavern of Souls and a bunch of removal. I then got slowed down by Isolated Chapel and Woodland Cemetery being my only lands. With the loss of momentum, he was able to drop three Knight of Glory into play with Champion of the Parish enjoying the exalted bonuses. My Lotleth Troll, Gravecrawler, and Lingering Souls was not enough to hold him off. Game two he had to mulligan down to five, then scooped after I played Uvenwald Tracker. Game three saw a turn three Frontline Medic and a turn two Precinct Captain, giving him a battalion trigger. I was forced to block unless I wanted to take 9 damage (after he activated Gavony Township). Oblivion Ring took care of the Frontline Medic, but I lost too much board position to recover.
Round Two: Wolfrun Bant
Game one I curve out as my opponent kept a risky hand. He wasn't able to play anything besides Thragtusk on turn five because I didn't play any non-creature spells (he thought I was playing Junk Rites). Game two he sideboards expecting Unburial Rites after I only played Deathrite Shaman, Lotleth Troll, and Junk-colored lands. He ends up sitting on three Negates in hand while I play a bunch of zombies off of Cavern of Souls and then hit him with Abrupt Decay, winning the round 2-0.
Round Three: U/G Madness and Affinity
Game one I dropped Lodestone Golem on turn two off of Grim Monolith before...wait wat? Oh. I forgot...since I was dropping, my opponent and I decided to just play some games of Legacy.
