Changes —Oct. 17, 2012
I made a handful of changes recently. I added 2 Hellrider then took them out and added 2 Altar's Reap to help keep my hand full, plus it has synergy with Blood Artist. I also changed up my SB a bit by adding Appetite for Brains as one of the only ways to deal with Sigarda, Host of Herons. Constructive comments and suggestions are always welcomed, keep em coming
I went 2/2 at my weekly tourny with pretty much the same deck but I'm running electrickery instead of bonfires. It was fun but i went in with no side board big mistake.

No problem, and if you've had success with the Slitherhead, then by all means run it. I've just had more with the Ghoul, but that could be because of my LGS's meta or something

should look at my til death do us part version. its red black. but the effects of control are still there and easily replaced by zombies instead of vampires in the mainboard. using green is only good for a few spells. but effectively utilizing discard creates a problem for an opponents so u could pseudo destroy artifacts and enchantments before they are ever able to benefit from them
using this trick can made an opponent pretty upset lol. i used this deck against delver and made a spectacle of the guy. he was quite ticked off. he went 4-1 and as did i and i placed 2nd and he placed 3rd and the guy who won was using monoblack control

JayZ1483, maybe it's time to reset the comments? Alot of crazy banter back there and you've done some nice work updating since then.

I've been trying to figure it out lol. Can't seem to find that function :/

Very nice, btw. I constructed a similar deck before I saw yours. Mine is a bit more budget friendly, however. Do take a look, if you would:

I'm not terribly sure about Killing Wave main board (or at all). I've never been much of a fan for letting the opponent choose anything. Then again, I play control... Why not....
Suggestions
Mainboard:
-3 Dreg Mangler
+1 Mountain , +1 Hellrider , +1 Bonfire of the Damned
Reasoning: Dreg Mangler is great, but I don't quite think the best for this deck. Another land for mana fixing, a Bonfire and a Hellrider will go a long way. Bonfire is obvious, but I think you'll find Hellrider will win you more games than you can count. I really like the Slitherhead + Lotleth Troll interaction.

Thanks!
Killing Wave has actually been really good for me. When used properly your opponent really shouldn't have a choice when you cast it. Its sac your creatures or die. Plus the obvious combo with Blood Artist makes it too useful to take out. But the deck is still in the test phase.
I was running 3 Bonfires but moved one to the SB because I was drawing them waaaayyyy to early (within first 2-3 turns). In this deck hard-casting a Bonfire for effective damage is difficult without any ramp.
I have been looking for a spot for another Hellrider , but Dreg Mangler has just been too good to take out. I've been playing this deck against my friends for about 2 weeks now (proxied of course) and he's been really effective. However, that being said, I haven't playtested with the Hellrider s in yet, so I may take your suggestion after playing with them.
Thanks for commenting. Let me know if you think of anything else

@ JayZ1483 Of course, I can see the interaction with Blood Artist, so I guess Killing Wave as a two-of does make sense.
The other maybe card that I was looking at was Slitherhead , but the interaction with Lotleth Troll is just too awesome for me to ignore. Two counters on a turn-two 2/1 drop with trample FOR FREE is a big deal against most opponents, especially with regen for only one black and the lack of removal against it until turn 3...
Either way, I said it in my other post, I like this deck a lot. It synergizes well and is overall very solid. It doesn't really need any fixing if you chose to leave it as is, but you might be able to get a little bit more out of it with some tweaking.

I didn't mean for that comment to come across as snide, I apologize.
Yea I do like the way its coming around, and I'm still going back and forth the Slitherhead vs Diregraf Ghoul debate, but I think I'm gonna stick with the former for now until I play in a more competetive setting. Still trying to fit in one more Hellrider though....

although bonfire of the damned is a really good card, i believe its not going to be as good with the new meta because theres lots of cards that create big creatures, my opinion. I made a B/G Zombie Artist deck that utilizes rancor for more dmg instead of using burn spells. Nice deck though

Other than Slaughter Games and Bonfire of the Damned , what do you use to get rid of Sigarda, Host of Herons ? She hoses Killing Wave ...
I made a similar deck to this and dig your build. I saw this after the fact... anywho, do scope it if you would:
October 12, 2012 4:08 p.m.
@D2r2b I was thinking about Rancor when I built it, but I went with more forms of removal because of Blood Artist . I may still add if I tweak this to go more aggro
@aeonstoremyliver do you have a suggestion? I can't really think of anything at the moment that can remove her other than the aforementioned cards. You are right, she definitely needs to be dealt with and without Phyrexian Metamorph it will be tough

I would say discard. It's the best way to prevent her from even hitting the board. Appetite for Brains would work, plus it's useful against other big beasties. Slaughter Games could be used in conjunction. Too bad Surgical Extraction and Despise rotated out... :-/
Once Sigarda is out, she's near impossible to deal with unless a Terminus , that new U/W Day of Judgement card, or a Clone is used. I REALLY hope there's some better removal for G, B, and R in the next set.

I really like the looks of this! +1! I put together a jund zombies deck deck:falkin-jund-zombies and I may, with your permission, alter it a little to use the Slitherhead s. Wicked with LOL Troll! Let us know how it's working and what decks it's good/bad against!
October 12, 2012 5:35 p.m.
Thanks Hankundead, and by all means you should use the Slitherhead /Lotleth Troll arrangement. After a lot of playtest its been found to be very effective
October 12, 2012 5:55 p.m.
I agree with the Slitherhead synergy with Lotleth Troll . Have great success with that in my golgari deck. Just another option as a reacurring engine for Lotleth might try using Veilborn Ghoul . Everytime you play a swamp he returns to your hand to discard and pump up the beast of a troll. Has worked wonders for me.

The best part about killing wave is you can 0 cast it so you can sack all your creatures for the win. especially if you have two artists out. Having two artists and two creatures out when you zero cast is eight damage for one mana. Hugely awesome.

just for your rukes knowledge, JayZ1483, hellriders triggered ability damage CANNOT be redirected to planeswalkers, its text: "to defending player" forbidds you to redirect the damage. otherwise great deck i was thinking about some similar deck myself, only change: take out those killing waves and try it out with rakdos return.

I definitely see your point and I do agree, but I've been running this deck proxied for almost 2 weeks against my friends and Slitherhead has not only pumped my troll (aforementioned) but it has helped with keeping my Falkenrath Aristocrat s alive as well, being its only 1 toughness. Putting free +1/+1 counters on those is HUGE. Again, its also situational, but they really haven't done me wrong.
However I am curious so I will playtest it with Diregraf Ghoul in its place before FNM and see if it makes a noticeable difference. If my win percentage increases, I'll make the change. Thanks for the suggestion
