Thinking About These Changes —April 28, 2022

I think Tatyova has fallen behind Meren a bit, so I'm hoping to spice this deck up a bit. I'm thinking of adding Forbidden Orchard, Dust Bowl, Breeding Pool, Teferi's Isle, Gretchen Titchwillow, Gush, and Flooded Shoreline. I'm thinking I'll probably take out Ipnu Rivulet, Hashep Oasis, Seat of the Synod, Tree of Tales, Soratami Cloudskater, Tideforce Elemental, and Roil Elemental. The lands I'm adding leave me in pretty good shape colour-wise, but Teferi's Isle is a stinker when I'm not untapping it a bunch, it's added for combo purposes. I'm not sure if I should add in Guildless Commons, as another self-bouncing land that taps for 2. For the non-lands, Cloudskater was a nightmare to actually set up a combo with (it needed extra parts to work, for pretty questionable payoff usually), Tideforce similarly was a dead card without a 'mana for landfall' card, and Roil Elemental was the world's biggest removal magnet. I'd probably have been better off keeping the not very good Avenger of Zendikar in over that, but it's not like it was a 'bad' card, it just wasn't synergizing heavily enough for a deck like this. Flooded Shorelines is a better removal solution than Roil Elemental, and it also can go infinite readily, making it better at bouncing lands than Cloudskater. Gush is really good with Mystic Sanctuary, so I feel like putting it in. The fact that it can set up a combo before Tatyova can be out is really, really interesting, and if I draw a nuts hand, Gush can combo off very early. Gretchen is better card draw than Cloudskater, since she can just pay 4 to draw a card without any drawbacks, and if I draw a land I get a free card, so she can actually combo off in some situations with 'mana on landfall' dorks, especially Stone-Seeder Hierophant. Forbidden Orchard is a crazy card to add, but once I saw what it could do with The Great Aurora, I had to add it in, it's just too hilarious, and Dust Bowl can just wipe out people's mana in an infinite situation, while also offering a way to deal with problematic lands that might let other people combo off more quickly. Breeding Pool is just plain good in here, I even have a Fetch that can find it, woo! Teferi's Isle as noted is a bad card in some hands, but it's also weirdly good, and can enable some unexpected wins if I just leave it in hand until I need to combo with it, it doesn't matter if it comes in tapped if I can untap if infinitely, it just matters that it gives UU usually. The Artifact Lands were nice for awhile, being untapped lands that make coloured mana, but I grow more and more paranoid of stuff like Vandalblast, or Gorilla Shaman becoming more popular and punishing me for them. They are just magnets for interaction, so I'm better off without them, even if my colour fixing is probably a tad worse. We'll see if it actually matters, since adding in two untapped duals adds a lot of 'oomph'.

Edit: Ended up pulling Centaur Garden over Hashep Oasis, which can be tapped for mana without burning me, which is an asset. Ipnu isn't as versatile as the Colliseum though, so that stays in to catch people running Oracle Consultation.
