Okay everyone, it's time to channel your inner Hearthstone and play Face Hunter in MTG! I've always loved burn as a deck type, and I was inspired to build the most non-interactive deck I could come up with to count to 20 as fast as possible. With the prevalence of fetchlands and shocklands in the meta, Burn is getting better and better versus more matchups.
[Update: I've removed the Needle Spires in favor of basic lands. I can't risk having land come in untapped.]
I'm not sure I like the Needle Spires too much. It's in there because it's a dual land, but also because it's another body that can potentially deal 4 damage. The idea of putting it in was insurance of always having a way to deal damage, no matter what, even with no cards in hand. I dislike it because it's 4 mana; I think it has a better place in a Heroic deck or something similar. I'm concerned it's too slow. Clifftop Retreat is a good way of having both Red and White mana coming in untapped, since all of our cards only cost 1 or 2 mana. We can viably run this deck with two lands out, although three or four is ideal.
Eidolon of the Great Revel is the card that, in my opinion, pushed Burn up a tier in competitive play, so we have him as a four-of.
All our other mainboard cards are pretty much staples in red aggro decks, cards like Monastery Swiftspear, Goblin Guide, and the majority of our burn spells.
In our sideboard we have some cards for aggro matchups such as Spark Trooper (a personal favorite from back in 2014) and Deflecting Palm. Additionally, we're running three copies of Volcanic Fallout for games where we're up against people who are gonna swarm the board with 1/1 humans or 2/2 zombies, etc. Additionally, it deals with several creatures typically used in RDW, so in the chance of a mirror matchup you've got yourself covered.
Path to Exile is for matchups against any gross creatures we don't like that our opponents put out. Examples might be Tarmogoyf and other such monstrosities.
Lastly there's Skullcrack, in case people try to make us count higher than 20.
I'd love any advice or card suggestions.
