Sideboard

I really liked Kellan in K Arsenault Rivera's story articles, especially Two Great Banquets. I also like how you can buffer duplicates of him with his Adventure.

This deck has gone through a lot of iterations as I try to nail down how to best use our new favorite protagonist, whose card has what I'll generously call a difficult niche to find.

I've been getting the hang of the reworked deck, but I think where I've really been stumbling is on the mana curve: it was an aggro deck that invented the concept, after all, so I should put more care into it. To get more two-drops in, I've taken out the following:

  • Jaya, who's been moved entirely to the sideboard
  • a Lost Jitte, since it's terrible to draw when I'm behind, since does stone nothing until it's too late
  • 2x Kellan, because I'm no longer banking on tutoring up a Jitte
  • the Cacophony Scamps, (even though I do think they'd be good if I had room for them)
  • Skrelv, who's been removed from the deck entirely

I was surprised to reach the conclusion that Skrelv should come out, but I think it's for the best: despite having some games where it makes my game-ending threat untouchable, it has far more where it just sits there like an idiot while I get stomped because I didn't draw pressure or removal. According the MTGGoldfish, it barely even sees play anymore outside of Bant Poison...

For replacements, I've brought back the fourth Charming Scoundrel and 3x Fugitive Codebreaker, as well as two newcomers: 2x Feldon, whom I'm excited to try after the umpteenth game he's beaten my ass uncontested (did you know that he says "end of your next turn?), and a singleton Ash, Party Crasher. My logic on Ash is that, since 95% of the time I see Bloodthirsty Adversary it's just a bear with haste, Ash will be that but better, and that I simply don't have enough spells to use Bloodthirsty Adversary that 5% of the time. I was originally going to run 2x, but she's a highly embarrassing card to get legend rule-ed by, so I'll just mise the one. Lastly, I've brought back the playset of Ossification, since I don't have Cacophony Scamp as backup removal for Witchstalker Frenzy anymore.

One of the smart ways I can leverage being in white is that when Loran comes in from the sideboard she might be in play with Feldon :3
