Sideboard


So if you've looked at my pest control deck then you'll know I really really like pest...now what do pest have to do with Orzhoz you might ask. That's golgari territory some might argue. Well not anymore! Say hello to Orzhov Aggro!

So first I saw killian... I really really like killian and let me tell you why! He is a 2 drop 2/2 with life link and menace. That's already mean on it's own but couple that with the added caviat of all your instant and sorcery spells costing a whole 2 less mana if they target a creature is damn near broken! Especially when this ability is coupled with Clever Lumimancer , Leonin Lightscribe and my favorite Sedgemoor Witch . That's right I said sedgemoor witch!

So on the topic of Sedgemoor Witch she is probably my second favorite card as she too has menace, is a 3/2, makes a pest every instant and sorcery cast which pairs with killian beautifully and her ward ability can really take a toll, nothing I love more then baiting a Bonecrusher Giant and watching them take 3 damage just to drop another one turn 4 😏 but let's face it the real reason she is in this deck is to make pest...lots of pest! You can get two pest per Hunt for Specimens which gives you another spell to cast for more pest. And the coupe de resistance is you can use all those pest in conjunction with Plumb the Forbidden to not only gain massive card advantage, but trigger spell copies for our Leonin and Clever Lumimancer. Now have a killian on the field, plumb the forbidden any amount of pest you have and cast a Show of Confidence and watch the numbers go crazy. Cast multiples in one turn and you can have Clever Lumimancer swinging for 10+ turn 4

What's nice is Killian also makes heartless act cost 1b so you turn 3 you can drop killian and act a creature on their turn, or save a mana and act a lone blocker they left behind so you dont swing for game. Also with his and Sedgemoor's menace you can force two blockers freeing up a pest army to swing for game, or swing by one creature with no fear. And my favorite is how you can use him to play Silverquill Command for 1W1B give him or Lumimancer flying and force a sacrifice, bring back a 2 drop which is nice against mill decks. Or draw a card.

A few other mentions would be Hall of Oracles can still give you a colorless mana, can be used as a black or white for 1 to cast an instant with killian that requires one 1 but you only have a swamp or Castle Locthwain with an untapped Hall. But after casting an instant or sorcery you can tap it to give a creature a +1/+1 counter which can keep any creature you want from being targeted by heatless act, help keep your 2 toughness creatures out of shock range, or just give you that little extra umphfff!

Next mention is Devastating Mastery I used to use blood in snow as my board wipe of choice but I've learned to love this one more. For one it destroys EVERYTHING! Not just all creatures or all plains walkers, even if you cast it for the reduced cost you can set back decks that have combod an ugin or tibalt out, or just set them back while still destroying everything else. Yeah 4 white seems like a lot of specific mana but can be easily done. And this card is great for mono green rample, swarm decks and really anything but indestructible

Next a few two of's would be Fracture and Sparring Regimen fracture is there mainly for plains walkers but can help remove pesky enchantments slow down the ramp of Ultimatum decks and it's only 2 mana. Where as sparring regimen can help buff creatures but really I enjoy the two extra learn triggers. And 2 Castle Locthwain just to help keep cards in hand against discard decks or games that go a little longer then usual.

Soooo speaking of learn triggers the lessons I chose were Introduction to Prophecy for card draw and help keep your hand full, cause hey card draw. An Environmental Sciences to mainly ensure I either get a 3rd mana turn 3 after using hunt for specimens or to help get an extra plains for Devastating Mastery . Then theirs 2 Expanded Anatomy to buff your creatures more, give them vigilance and with killan be used for one of any color and trigger more triggers!!! I did think of putting the inkling summoning lesson in here but I decided Pest Summoning was good for some extra plum the forbidden triggers or for two blockers that can give you life. LASTLY! There is 2 Reduce to Memory in there just for the added removal and it being exile any permanent. I can't decide if I would rather this or Necrotic Fumes but to be honest I haven't really needed either and might take em both out for an extra expanded anatomy or introduction to Prophecy, I don't know maybe give me y'all's feed back on that

So thats my Orzhov Aggro deck. Orzhov has always been my favorite, and I've never really taken an aggro approach with it and to be honest have been really really surprised at my success with this deck. It can wipe out ultimatum before it has a chance to trigger, I honestly don't lose to mill unless I'm having mana issues. And with two Sedgemoor's I've even out swarmed a few swarm decks thanks two getting 2 pest per plump the forbidden trigger you can double your army instently. Anyway I hope you all enjoy my deck and I'd appreciate any feedback. Currently 5 days into this months season on MTG Arena and it's gotten me to diamond 2 and I haven't fought a deck similar yet. Update 5-6-2021

Soooo after playing with it a bit more I decided to take out the 2 Sparring Regimen for 2 Luminarch Aspirant to essentially do the same thing but can be played turn two, be used as an extra creature, and force a response out of my opponent.

I also took out the 2 Fracture because as nice as it is in certain situations I would rather just keep those as side board options for heavy enchantment/plainswalker decks and instead replaced them for two more Silverquill Command because I find the added 3/3 and flying can help swing over head for game, force sac troubles creatures bring something back from your graveyard which is great against mill, and if needed get ya an extra card.

Anyways Just hit diamond 1 with the changes and I couldn't be happier! Let's go mythic!
