Squee's Toy

Artifact

Tap: Prevent the next 1 damage that would be dealt to target creature this turn.

As a minor point, let's replace Squee's Toy with Samite Healer, since the Toy only prevents damage to creatures.

Samite Healer would prevent the initial 1 damage. There's now no damage for Gratuitous Violence to double, so you wouldn't take any damage from Fireslinger.

If I have a Gratuitous Violence, or any other damage doubler and I prevent Fireslinger's 1 pt of dmg to myself with Squee's Toy, would it never go on to deal the additional point of damage?

Squee_Spirit_Guide I might need to move that book over here from my witches deck, that’s a good call. And Squee's Toy is PERFECT for the deck; I’ll have to see if I can get my tricksy-little-Squee-hands on one!

Oh this is delightful! Might I suggest a few curios for the shop?

Mangara's Tome

Squee's Toy

Teferi's Puzzle Box

I think these relics are exactly the kinds of things an Argivian Archaeologist would unearth and they'd ultimately wind up in Gwafa's shop.

And I love the inclusion of Bazaar of Wonders. One of my favourite cards in Mirage :)

This deck is a voltron deck, so it wants to pump a creature with a lot of auras preventing it from being destroyed. Horobi goes for a very different route, I think Horobi behaves more like a control deck, using free or cheap "target creature" effects (even with lands and bad artifacts, like Squee's Toy ) to control the board while winning the game with heavy X-spells or something like Revel in Riches (I have a Horobi list on my tappedout profile and played some matches with it).

If we cast Horobi, we won't pump Killian with Auras, and this is exactly what this deck wants to do.

KibaAlpha

The "keeping the low curve" is very comprehensible, but I don't know if the matches you'll play will be that fast (considering you're playing voltron that wins the game through combat damage, a slower strategy than combo in most cases). If the matches takes longer, I guess that you'll need more powerful spells (removal, recursion, etc), that will eventually cost more mana.

I see that you're not running Retether , another great recursion spell. I think that you should at least give it a try. It's a way to re-trigger your Auras ETB effects and pump Killian if it's removed.

I don't know if you've tested this deck and could keep up with your opponents in longer games. What are your experiences with this deck and these situations?

Horobi, Death's Wail is fun and cheap. It does some neat things with Cauldron of Souls, Touch of Darkness, Squee's Toy, etc.

Staff of Nin was too high of a mana cost for what it was worth to me at the time, but I'll think about it. What would you cut for it?

I have a Squee's Toy, and I'm considering adding it in place of Desert. Despite being a EDHrec mainstay of the deck, I just hate how restrictive desert is.

Instead of using Glaring Spotlight, which will be regularly targeted by the opponents that care about it, I decided to just play more boardwipes. I have very few problems dealing with creatures, no matter how many keywords you strap onto them.

I'm not sure why I haven't been playing tooth... instant speed AND repeatable, two of my favorite things. Will change this.

I previously played Dauthi Embrace, but BB for the target was a little too much for me since horobi will almost never live to see an untap phase. Mana is limited for that turn.

Staff of Nin provides great card advantage while at the same time providing a targeting ability. Might be a little expensive to cast, but it is often a 2-for-1 that keeps giving.

Squee's Toy is cheap and hilarious. Kill off your opponent's stuff with a squeeze doll.

Glaring Spotlight is another tool so that you can target your opponent's stuff. Also can be sacrificed when you need to get in that alpha strike or just protect your board.

Tooth of Chiss-Goria can be played at instant speed and sometimes for free for a truly nasty surprise.

Dauthi Embrace is another repeatable tool that combos with Horobi.

Great decklist! Always love seeing janky or less popular commanders given opportunity.
