Cemetery Desecrator

Creature — Zombie

Menace

When this enters the battlefield or dies (is put into the graveyard from the battlefield), exile another target card from a graveyard. When you do, choose one —

  • Remove X counters from target permanent, where X is the converted mana cost/mana value of the exiled card.
  • Target creature an opponent controls gets -X/-X until end of turn, where X is the converted mana cost/mana value of the exiled card.

DrukenReaps on Looking at Battles, possibly a …

So as the title, thinking about a Gimmicky theme deck around Battles. Not sure if there's anything worth building there yet though... What I've got so far is as follows-

36 total Battles making a 5 color deck possible but no 5 color commanders really have much if any synergy to me. Maybe Omnath, Locus of All for the flavor and connection to Further comments explain why black is important I think.

Each 3 color combination has 17 or 18 Battles, about the minimum to make it feel like a "Battle" deck imo.

So looking at 3/4/5 colors for the deck. With the following cards I think black is the best possible color for it - Vampire Hexmage, Hex Parasite, Cemetery Desecrator, Aether Snap, Marchesa, Resolute Monarch  Flip, and Render Inert. There are some things in other colors but they only removed 1 counter at a time. I'd rather remove all or most of them in one cast. Alternate use on these is killing Planeswalkers and making certain commanders sad.

Glissa Sunslayer exists but as a commander she'd only get 11 Battles currently and only 1 of those dies to her trigger. Others take two triggers to kill at least. Maybe with another few sets she becomes much better? If they keep printing Battles...

So Looking towards

- Sultai

- Jund

- Grixis

- Abzan

- Mardu

- Esper

If there are any commanders you think would work well in those colors let me know. Or other things you think would go well in this sort of idea like Dark Depths. I'm thinking commanders that are hard or difficult to block or can cause non-combat damage to any target have the most synergy.

Hey, interesting Zombie theme. There's many excellent cards here, but also way too much filler for a 500+ budget. I presume the wincon here is Captain? With Gravecrawler combos of Altar or Rooftop?

Only 11 ramp sources here with only 33 lands are low numbers for Muldrotha. I don't consider Explosive Vegetation and Circuitous Route playable ramp either with a $100 low budget let alone a higher $500+ budget. There's so many ramp choices that have better interaction with Muldrotha that aren't 4 mana. 3.5 avg. CMC (mana curve) is high for only these numbers too. Something should give? Either add more ramp, add more lands, cut the lesser high CMC cards, or do all this to improve your deck?

To reduce mana curve these are some cards to consider cutting?

Others:

The Spirit tribal theme is not needed here. Some Spirits are fine, if the card is good by itself or helps Muldrotha some other ways and doesn't need other Spirits. There's a reason that Cemetery Desecrator isn't even $1 and is a Mythic rare, it's a terrible card for 6 mana. Drownyard Amalgam is at least not Mythic, but is just as bad for a five drop. You don't need these Zombies, they aren't helping your deck in any way for their mana cost.

It can help to see a deck list that's not 99 cards yet, but has been stripped of a lot of fat. Seeing a list this way can help to smooth the mana curve by adding more cards at certain parts of it that need more such as two drops here. In boarder terms consider more ramp, draw and low mana cost reanimation/self-mill enablers to setup Muldrotha and Zombies?

Good luck with your deck.

Crimson Vow gave us a lot of stuff to work with. Let's have a look. A lot of the zombies of Crimson Vow come up with "Exploit". This Keyword allows us to sacrifice a creature (even it's own) to gain value somehow. I will not evaluate each possible card but cards which will become a part of the deck or where close to be impleneted.

Cemetery Desecrator - a 4/4 for 6 with that less (?) impact seems not that special, even with menace

Necroduality - a 4 cmc creature doubler? Count me in! Straight upgrade to Reflections of Littjara

Headless Rider - 3/1 for 3 seems a bit vulnerable, but i guess i'll give it a try to gain more value on death triggers

Patchwork Crawler - exile from OUR graveyard? What a pity, this card could have been so good

Geralf, Visionary Stitcher - The anthem effect is nice... i like Gerald, but it seems he is always a bit behind his sister Gisa. But he could so some work in a simic seamonster deck (or similar)

Overcharged Amalgam - 3/3 Flash Flying with the ability to counter everything? I'm hyped!

Catapult Fodder  Flip - Love the art and the story of the card. very funny. But i don't think this one could do anything good for us.

Archghoul of Thraben - This card can be extremly powerful with Wilhelt. I will definately test him. Incidential card advantage is always welcome!

Diregraf Scavenger - a good card for common, excellent blocker. but at least one cmc too high

As always, i'm curious aboutyour thoughts
