04/03/2024 (3.0) skipped a bunch of versions because this was a bigger update.

Haven't spent much time on this one, while building a couple other decks. Now returning to with fresh eyes, refining the focus, checking to see if any of these cards work better in the newer lists (lots going to Rakdos), and I actually purchased a few inexpensive additions.

The biggest upgrades are: A bunch of awesome lands in hand card advantage that can be: reload lightning bolt lands or landfall drops depending on which commander I am playing.

Bag of Holding, Creeping Renaissance, Praetor's Counsel, Barrel Down Sokenzan, Nahiri's Lithoformingfoil

Jolrael, Empress of Beasts to turn my opponents precious lands into lightning bolt targets for a little bit of control.

Upgraded Voyaging Satyr to Krosan Restorer though i am less convinced of thier overall value here at this time.

I put my Grafted Exoskeleton back in. I thought making Borborygmos a tripple barreled poison counter machine gun mighy be a bit much. But then I played a couple friends whose decks were far meaner than I expected. So here we are.

Removed: Traveler's Amulet (HOU) Feed the Clan (KTK) Vessel of Volatility (SOI) Voyaging Satyr (THS) Tunneling Geopede (BFZ) Pilgrim's Eye (BFZ) Burnished Hart (THS) Everflowing Chalice (WWK) Flamekin Herald (CMR)

Could we talk about how incredibly fun Sweep could be if the cards were accordingly powerful to this harsh drawback? There are four card with the ability word, all of which are terrible, and some of which are terricly terrible (Looking at you, Barrel Down Sokenzan .)

With landfall being such a popular ability, Sweep could actually be the bringer of neat synergy. Just imagine something like this:

Akoum Avalanche

Instant

Sweep - Return any number of mountains you control to their owner's hand. ~ deals X damage divided as you choose among any number of targets, where X is three times the number of lands returned to hand this way.

RedDeckTries on Hazoret Polymorph

Catonian Not in its current 'morph build. Lots of solo testing, but I have way more time to brew than play. But I like Hazoret in that she has Infect as an out with Grafted Exoskeleton or if you add a few different cards in you can go more burn. The two big creatures I'm using are definitely not budget-friendly either. For a while I was running Barrel Down Sokenzan with Seismic Assault. Being Indestructible really gives you so much flexibility in what you can do with her.

Most decks prefer Haz hellbent so they can attack, but its not uncommon in Goldfishing to have a Blightsteel/Kozilek by turn 5 or 6. Too slow for really competitive groups but a solid choice for mid-tier casual players. At least from what it feels like so far. Someone else you should look at is Jaya Ballard, Task Mage, lots of good abilities.

I love Zada. My take on her is more goblin burn synergy than beating face, Zada's Hedron Mirror, you may see something you'll want to add here.

Now, I think you have some good ideas being rendered subpar due to poor card choices. Example, why would you play enchantment auras like Claws of Valakut which can only boost 1 creature when Downhill Charge targeting Zada will boost everyone?

It's all about instant and sorceries targeting a single creature with Zada, take advantage of it!

Go here and see what I mean: https://edhrec.com/commanders/zada-hedron-grinder. It'll give you lots of ideas of how to improve this and most cards are dirt cheap because they more-or-less only work well with Zada.

In general: I never play with less than 36 lands so add 7 more lands, I always have 8-10 ramp cards (spells and/or rocks), add instants that will let you draw lots (there's ~10), find +/+ spells you like, you wouldn't be amiss to add token generating spells, Break Through the Line you target your guys then +/+ them and will still be unblockable, and less cards that cripple you like Barrel Down Sokenzan...

Devastating Summons/Mana Seism/Barrel Down Sokenzan are all fun options for using those lands to assist a valakut combo. with less lands
