Best less-serious commanders?

Commander (EDH) forum

To put it simply, I have my serious edh deck designed and in the process of being made (Baral Control) and Im looking for a deck to have for less serious games. Either ones where I just dont want to be as cutthroat as mono blue needs me to be, or games with new players (Never introduce new players to edh by using your mono blue "counter all the things" deck on them)

So far my ideas are Mono Red Chaos (Stuff like possibility storm, thieves auction, basically all of the shenanigans)

Mono Green Elves

Relentless Rats

Nahiri soldier/equipment tribal

I would like to hear any ideas you guys have :)

I would not play a chaos deck. I think you would be best suited with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord or Selvala, Explorer Returned. Both decks can be competitive (I have a Selvala elfball and it wins at turn 4 to 6). Nonetheless you will definitely be able to do a non cut throat deck with those commanders. My jarad deck won a couple of times at our local command league but I then decided to throw in all of my favorite high cmc creatures and it super fun to play (jarad can always close games if you need to).

Dont think people would appreciate drafting a turn 25 boardstate? :P

How about a deck that just copies what everyone else is doing with Clever Impersonator effects? That way, your deck feels comfortable at any table. Riku of Two Reflections is good with this.

This is what I've done: I go to this resource, scroll down to tier 4 (the best place for specifically non-competitive commanders that can still win in casual groups), open all the commanders that I might build (in this case, most of the mono-colored ones), and then open up each of their pages on edhrec.com to see what their decks typically look like (the "default deck" button is especially interesting for that).

Best of luck, and let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!

My favorite casual commanders are Grenzo, Havoc Raiser and Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury

What would you think of Vorel of the Hull Clade as a less serious fun commander?

Nath eyeball and Nahiri soldiers are a lot of fun and can be tuned to be more or less cutthroat.

If you are into control, give King Macar, the Gold-Cursed a shot! He can be very oppressive, especially if he comes in early. He is my favourite commander and the one I mainly pilot!

A deck I frequently lent out to beginners and/or used for more casual playgroups was a good ol' G/W beatdown deck helmed by Karametra, God of Harvest. Just ramp out with manadorks and Karametras ability and cast awesome big stuff like Worldspine Wurm, Armada Wurm, Overrun and more.

Chaos stuff has the strong possibility of turning off new players. Since commander is supposed to be a weird and wonderful format I try to put together strange combinations like Atraxa, Praetors' Voice "level tribal", or "morph tribal" with Ezuri, Claw of Progress. Seeing them in action might get new players thinking about other ways the commanders could be used.

Alternately a deck with the other 99 restricted to commons and uncommons is another way of going about it.
