Which cost cheater?

Commander Deck Help forum

I'm looking to build a deck that cheats mana costs. The two commanders I'm looking at are Jhoira of the Ghitu as a way to drop multiple big spells over a few turns or Intet, the Dreamer to generate subtle value. Obviously, jhoira is a bigger target, but would the added hate be worth the extra consistency? Or would it be better to go with a big scary temur dragon and fly under the radar?

If you are asking objectively, go with Jhoira. I always had a sweet spot for Intet though, so my suggestion would be that for the extra ramp (also Elvish Piper is a card!)

Jhoria's ability is more powerful and easier to abuse but it tends to be a glass cannon deck. If you get into a position where you can't cast her, depending on exactly how you build, you will likely be dead in the water.

Intet requires top deck manipulation or luck and maybe some double strike. He is far less hated and tends to lead a deck that can function without him more often. Being a 6/6 flier he can do some damage on his own too.

Intet tends towards consistent long term value. Jhoria tends towards a few very explosive turns, similar in some ways to a combo deck.

If you enjoy comboing off you should at least try Jhoria, if you don't like combo go with Intet. While Jhoria doesn't usually do actual combos it isn't abnormal to play Obliterate followed by 2 or 3 eldrazi titans and smash into people or watch them scoop.

Also just thought I would mention Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder is a kind of happy in between of the two you are thinking about. He can smash face like intet while having more consistent value with the potential to have a huge turn like Jhoria but not as easily set up as her.

Generally also a very hated commander.

I played Jhoira a few years back and the games always turned into archenemy the first island I played. This is what led me to consider Intet. More of a "safer" commander.

Yidris has been on my list to build for a while now. Admittedly, the reason I haven't yet is I have no idea how he should be built. So how does one build a Yidris?

Yidris does well in 3 different decks though you can build many other ways too. These are just more common.

1) Value- This build works off great value cards like Selvala's Stampede and the expertise spells like Baral's Expertise. ETBs from Myr Battlesphere and cascading into Mulldrifter. Really just a more focused version of goodstuff.

2) Storm- I haven't played storm so I can't explain how it works with Yidris very well. Suffice to say Aetherflux Reservoir comes up as the win con often. Google yidris storm primer and you should find plenty of good information.

3) Voltron- I actually built him this way and it was awesome. Temur Ascendancy, Rage Reflection, Fireshrieker, Bear Umbra, Aggravated Assault are some of what was in there. A lot of double strike and haste with some hexproof and just swing turn after turn. One spell turns into 3 anytime you hit an opponent.

You can find some of the more commonly included stuff here https://edhrec.com/commanders/yidris-maelstrom-wielder
