From a Casual Deck to a Competitive Deck —Oct. 31, 2018

After playing Jhoira for the past few months, I realized that she is my favorite deck by far. The planning, the card draw, the risks. I love them. I then decided that it was time to upgrade the deck. Usually, I never get to this point. I usually make a bunch of decent decks and just keep playing new ones like that. So I figured that if there was ever a deck to upgrade finally, it was this one. So I added a few cards that buffed the deck to unbelievable amounts. The deck can win on turn 3 with the perfect hand. It can also be a deck where you just chill and draw cards until you decide to win.

What's the wincons here? I see lab maniac and the mill enchantment. What else?

darthskat There are a few actually! You are right with Laboratory Maniac being one with Leveler. And Psychic Corrosion is also a possible way to win. But the main, and most likely way of winning is to storm off with Aetherflux Reservoir. Other ways are Jaya's Immolating Inferno with infinite mana, Mechanized Production on Thopter tokens? Or if I am lucky and have Darksteel Forge out I can throw it on any useful artifact I have, getting Reckless Fireweaver out early and doing really solid damage, Psychosis Crawler draining the enemy for my large hand size. Uhhhh. That is it I think. The Antiquities War is also possible when you swing with a bunch of 5/5's.

nuggnugg I mean Metalwork Colossus enchanted with a Mechanized Production ends games xD. Mycosynth Lattice on the battlefield with a ton of mana along with a well placed tapping out, casting Rebuild to stop all of your opponents, and using the floating mana to 'Rebuild' your board will also end games!

SynergyBuild Very good point! I have Metalwork Colossus in the deck as it just makes sense since I will be casting him for almost nothing/nothing most games. And you are correct with the Mycosynth Lattice Combo. More so if I cast rebuild at the opponents end step so they have to discard most of their hand. There are a lot of things that can happen with that, and the deck in general. And that is why I like this deck so much.

Thoughts on Tawnos, Urza's Apprentice?

usaDiabetic I remember seeing that card being spoiled and thinking that is was decent but not worth putting in the deck. Then when you suggested it I started thinking more about it. Immediately my mind went to Aetherflux Reservoir. I pay the 50 life, then deal a total of 100 damage. Which should win any game. That is only the high point. I could also do things with Isochron Scepter that could be dirty. I will definitely find a place for him in the deck.

With your ability to recur artifacts, thoughts on Oblivion Stone

Also in magical christmas land, you can have Tawnos out and copy the fate counters.

ATOMIC1258 That is actually a really good card that I should put in the deck. But I do not think it should replace Reckless Fireweaver. Fireweaver has ~40 cards that will interact with it to Firebrand who has slightly more with ~45. Now the problem with Firebrand Archer is that I do not get the damage if I keep casting creatures over and over using blink effects or other things. I think it would be a good addition to Fireweaver but not a replacement. It is a slightly better card on paper though.
