Fable of Wolf and Owl...and Snakes

Legacy

cmluepke

After deciding that UG is my favorite color combo in the game, I set out to create a deck featuring one of my favorite UG cards, Fable of Wolf and Owl.

Since the point of the deck is getting out the Fable, the deck features a large amount of card draw and mana fixers; preordain, birds, coiling oracle, etc. On a good run I find I can get a Fable out by turn 4.

The problem I found with early play-testing is that I would generally be top-decking or almost out of cards in hand by the time I got out a Fable, so that's where the Mastermind comes into play. Almost all of the deck's creatures have triggered abilities when they come into play, so I self-bounce them and play them again, getting more tokens from the Fable.

Need more draw? Self-bounce an Oracle or Selkie.

Need to get that Voidslime back? Or need to save that Fable that was naturalized? Self-bounce an Eternal Witness.

Better yet, want a free counterspell each turn? Self-bounce a Mystic Snake!

All in all, it's a fun deck to play, not perfect but usually does pretty well. When I have the money I'll probably max out the Hinterland Harbors and add one or two Misty Rainforests. The Rite of Replication and Parallel Lives are just for fun, and will probably be replaced with additional Murkfiend Lieges when I get them.

Let me know what you think!

Updates Add

-1 Wistful Selkie -1 Parallel Lives +2 Selkie Hedge-Mage

Realized the Hedge-Mage offers some low cost utility and would be a great target for the Mastermind. Also both colors, so it'll give you both tokens if you have the Fable out. Don't actually own them IRL so for now I'm using 2 AEther Adepts.
