An outburst of Victory (FMN Recount) —Dec. 5, 2014

Yay, I got first place at FMN. In general the deck is too fast for a lot of decks to handle.

Match 1: Monored vs Abzan Midrange 2-1

Midrange is usually unfavorable if I am not on the play. However I was on the play in the first game and I managed to overrun him with Monastery Swiftsears and Akroan Crusader with a heap of pump spells. In the next game my opponent managed to T2 Fleecemane Lion into T3 Drown in Sorrow that severally slowed me down allowing him to stampede me with Rhinos. However game 3 was really close. I went with a very explosive start with Foundry Street Denizen followed by Akroan Crusader]] and Hammerhand allowing me to attack for 6 on T2. I won the game my opponent played a Sylvan Caryatid on turn 2 but was overwhelmed by a T3 [[Hordeling Outburst. In an attempt to stabilize my opponent played a T3 Siege Rhino but I swung for the win as I had a second Hammerhand stopping all blockers.

Match 2: Monored vs Abzan Midrange 2-1

The Match 2 games were very similar to Match 1 but with the exception that my opponent did not run Drown in Sorrow as he had a more aggressive deck with Rakshasa Deathdealer. This allowed me to steal some key wins with Hordeling Outburst and Akroan Crusader tokens as he only had the ability to 2 for 1 me with Bile Blights.

Match 3: Monored vs Jeskai Tempo 2-0

Jeskai Tempo is a very favorable match up as they cannot effectively remove multiple creatures like Abzan Midrange. Because of this I won the first game easily. Gmae tow was a little closer as he managed to T2 Circle of Flame stopping my T3 Hordeling Outburst. However I managed to steal the game with a Monastery Swiftspear and a Hammerhand on a goblin token. Even though my opponent drew Anger of the Gods later in the game, I had managed to destroy a mountain the turn before with Peak Eruption cutting him off his second red mana.

Match 4: Monored vs Sultai Midrange 2-1

Starting on the play I managed to outrace my opponent's slower threats and after he cracked a Polluted Delta for a second swamp to bile blight my two Monastery Swiftspears I was able to Lightnig Strike him for lethal. I lost game two as he managed to Despise my hand of two creatures and Bile Blighted the third. Allowing him to successfully deploy a Reaper of the Wilds while I drew pump spells and land. Game 3 was very close as I managed to put him to 3 in the first 3 turns with a very aggressive start of Foundry Street Denizen, Monastery Swiftspear and Hordeling Outburst. However he successfully stabilized while I was on 3 lands - with a Stoke the Flames in hand - and started beating down with a Reaper of the Wilds and a Courser of Kruphix. Fortunately I managed to top-deck a mountain the turn before he would swing for leathal and won as he was unable to find a counterspell for it with his Dig Through Time.

All in all, the deck performed as expected and I recommend it for people who want a cheap and effective deck for FMN.

Consider running Firedrinker Satyr or Satyr Hoplite over Valley Dasher
