@RemzZz The deck will perform decently if you get good hands, it really bites if they can turn 1 a Thoughtseize or Inquisition of Kozilek though. Good luck, and tell me how it does!

You could put some bounce lands in there in case you miss emrakul

@MrEM4N Assuming we haven't drawn any copies of Emrakul and only drawn one copy of Shelldock Isle, we have a 7 in 20 chance of hitting one of them, or less if we already removed some of the Serum Powders and Surgical Extractions. I've never had an issue with not hitting something. Also Dimir Aqueduct would have to be bounced unless we had another land out, so it would slow down our backup plan if we don't get a Surgical Extraction in our opening hand. I would much rather add in a copy of Brilliant Ultimatum as the 5th Emrakul instead. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Remember folks, MTG is a well-tuned, finely balanced game. :)

The Samite Alchemist could stop this, no problem,

@robotherolove I'm sure that he could, the entire set of Homelands is way too powerful. I've been thinking of adding Apocalypse Chime in here just to deal with it.

Too inconsistant. Add 4 Extirpate main board.

February 17, 2015 11:49 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #10

@greenkingwashere The problem with Extirpate is that it requires a land in hand and also a spends our entire turn 2 on it. This means that we can't get an Emrakul until turn 4 at the earliest, which is too slow. I originally had them in the mainboard, but I added in Serum Powder instead so we could get the ideal hand more consistently. I believe that they are better in the sideboard when we need to play against control decks.

I'd add Tolaria West to tutor for Shelldock Isle.

February 17, 2015 5:07 p.m.

lemmingllama says... #12

@Arorsthrar The problem with that is that we need to tutor, which is a little too much for this deck. If we have three lands out, either we have already combo'd or we have already lost.

I would maybe take out an apostle or two for demons. When I playtested it, I never got a Surgical Extraction and there was enough mana on the board to cast a demon is it was in hand. I know it makes the game a little slow, but it would help some. Maybe go for one more instead of two more

lemmingllama says... #15

@ThrasherCorpse95 You had the mana for a Rune-Scarred Demon, but you weren't able to cast 6 Shadowborn Apostles and get the demon? It's pretty rare that this would happen.

Still, it's certainly one thing I've been considering. It would also free up one more sideboard slot, which would be very useful. The only issue is that it would sometimes delay our turn 3 wins into turn 4 wins, which isn't always ideal. I'll need to do more playtesting.

Thanks for the suggestion!

boardwipe killed them all off

February 18, 2015 10:09 p.m.

lemmingllama says... #17

@ThrasherCorpse95 Ah, that would do it. Well, if you do add them into the mainboard and test it, feel free to tell me how it goes. I'll do some more playtesting on my end and see how it performs.

What do you think about adding 1-2 Dimir Aqueduct? They would give Shelldock Isle some recursion if odds were not on your side and you don't come up with a Emrakul or anything helpful.

lemmingllama says... #19

@TunaHero It's been mentioned before, but the issue is that you need a land out in order for it to be useful. Otherwise it just bounces itself. Lets say we set up the turn 3 win, and we just need to play our last land to activate Shelldock Isle and win. We drop a Dimir Aqueduct, and then either bounce our Shelldock Isle and exile Emrakul forever, or bounce the Dimir Aqueduct and not have the mana needed to activate. Cool idea in theory, but it sadly doesn't work in practice. This deck will die if it doesn't go quickly, so we need to combo as fast as possible.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

I thought of something earlier. Serum Powder is completely useless unless it's in your draw hand. Obelisk of Urd, however, can be a cheap cast because of Convoke and it gets your Apostles out of range from cards like Bile Blight, Drown in Sorrow, Doomwake Giant, Silumgar, the Drifting Death, etc. It also gives you 4/4's in case you never get a Surgical Extraction, creating a backup win condition

lemmingllama says... #21

@ThrasherCorpse95 I know that Serum Powder is a useless card outside of the draw, but it also increases our chances of getting that perfect turn 3 kill. Obelisk of Urd is a serious mana investment, even with the convoke. Additionally, it doesn't really help the combo at all, and I personally would like to keep this deck centered around the combo. Besides, there is a lovely deck called Zoo that already is designed to put out 3/3's for 1, and I would rather do something more unique than that.

Thanks for the suggestion though. It could be useful, but the only card that sees a lot of play that Obelisk of Urd would save us from is Pyroclasm. However, pretty much every other damage sweeper hits for 3 and the other wraths just kill irregardless of their toughness.
