I really want to use cards from Ravnica Allegiance —Jan. 24, 2019

But it's just so hard to justify any of them besides Pestilent Spirit, I want to use the second ability. The other abilities are excellent. Ethereal Absolution is a pure nonbo, Guardian Project has a high CMC for a deck that already has too many high CMC cards, afterlife is a banal mechanic and the tokens lack any real synergy with the deck. Any ideas?

Lifegain isn't really a part of the deck's synergy. I'm not sure I'd have enough spirits on the field to justify its cost either.

How do you play this deck? My meta is now more newbie friendly and often includes junk/fun decks, so I plan on building something like this instead of playing my combo Narset. Would you recomend it?

Hey Wachura, pure combat in EDH requires speed in order to win against the more common combo decks. The deck relies on early card draw and ramp in order to speedily attack opponents. She offers a wide variety of game styles, from dredge to political. She's a fun flexible card with a smaller level of escaltion than other +1/+1 based strategies such as Marchessa The Black Rose. Of course, her ability makes her a pure hatebear and as such, she is one of the more targeted commanders, so while the deck can hold its own quite well, there are ways to improve it.

The deck itself is spirit enchantment, so its built around escalating the power of spirits, and landing combat damage through flying, protection and shadow. The enchantments are for card draw, as well as getting rid of non creature threats. Its strong against aristocrats, dredge or any form of recursion. Its disadvantage comes from control and disruptions in tempo.

To play, aim to get anafenza out ASAP, around turn two or three, then work get your creatures out. Nether Traitor and Blessed Spirits are the highlights of the early play, if no one deals with them they can get big quickly. There's enough card draw to avoid mana starvation hopefully, though testing this deck with vancouver mulligans has been a little hit and miss. As you make your creatures more powerful, one drawback you may find is anafenza herself doesn't get more powerful. Any chance you can get to make her powerful I would take, for example putting counters on her via Briarknit Kami. Gift of Immortality almost always goes on her to make sure that killing her will result in her return, the exception to this is Jugan, the Rising Star.

A few cards I would consider depending on the meta:
Erebos, God of the Dead - No life gain anymore. works well against Oloro, Ageless Ascetic decks.
Athreos, God of Passage no one wants to sacrifice when Anafenza is on the field.
Infiltration Lens - I really should stick this card in this deck myself, another way to discourage killing anafenza, card advantage is important in all EDH decks.
In Garruk's Wake - expensive card to play, but can have hilarious results when no one responds. Just be prepared to be the most targeted person on the table should you use a card like this.
Go for the Throat - With Anafenza on the field, spot removal becomes much more powerful. Flexible card in both early and late game destruction.

I hope you find all this useful. I'm looking to build a crueler tax deck based around her, you can find the deck here Anafenza, The Boast Buster you may find some cards more synergistic with anafenza such as Managorger Hydra and Predator Ooze.

Did you read Devouring Greed ? It's not a lifegain. It can surprise kill a player at 10 or less easily. Also could have additional synergies with spirits dying (ex. Soul shift). I guarantee it performs better than it looks.

The life gain is just upside, first and foremost it is a burn spell, a sacrifice outlet, and an arcane spell. I just see no reason not to run one in this kamigawa spirit based deck.

I might throw one in and test it out. I may not get enough spirits on the field to justify it, but there are a few cards I'm considering taking out and as a finisher would not only deal with one opponent, it might keep me alive long enough to take out another.

anafenza is awesome in modern so it must be good in commander. it removes cards from graveyards and pumps creatures. all your spirit stuff is neat too. she is a ghost buster for real.

ViceRoy shes insane in EDH, borderline waifu material. I'm actually writing an article about how powerful she is and how many different ways you can play her. The "from anywhere" in her ability is stupidly powerful.
