Using the Adventure mechanic to mill our opponent. A gentle, medium-paced mill, looking to disrupt plans and block major threats while their graveyards fill up.
Merfolk Secretkeeper
is a solid turn 1 start, but really kicks off once
Lucky Clover
is on the field. Mill 4-20 cards for .
Shepherd of the Flock
lets us bounce the Merfolk back to our hand for replay value (and also benefits from the Clover).
Overwhelmed Apprentice
is another solid turn 1 play, getting the mill train started, setting up our draws, and giving us a body for early blocks.
Counterspells in the form of
Didn't Say Please
and
Thought Collapse
allow us to progress our plan while halting our opponents.
Teferi, Time Raveler
and
Brazen Borrower
are strong tempo plays, the latter giving us a beatdown clock if we need it.
Lucky Clover
gives us multiple bounces, letting us reset some otherwise overwhelming board states, and synergy with the Shepherd lets us make this play from cards on our board.
Into the Story
is a 4 mana draw four in this deck, giving much-needed hand replenishment.
Ashiok, Dream Render
locks out searching and keeps graveyard strategies from benefitting off mill.
Time Wipe
and
Flood of Tears
are great asymmetrical board wipes.
Fae of Wishes
rounds out the main board, giving us on-demand access to our board wipes and Planeswalkers. Again,
Lucky Clover
gives us access to multiple answers for the price of a single wish, Teferi lets us wish on our opponent's end step (or in response), and the shepherd reduces the bounce cost.
Other sideboard cards are
Midnight Clock
for mirror matches,
Negate
,
Absorb
and
Leyline of Sanctity
for burn, discard and aggro matches.
Lands include
Castle Vantress
for the scry sink, and a couple
Mystic Sanctuary
for replaying some of our counters or board wipes.
Budget conscious players can take out the
Brazen Borrower
s and Teferis, as well as cheapening the mana base. The core of the deck will still be there.
