False Cure Discussion

I have always been in love with Guiltfeeder & Laquatus's Champion.

With the second one you can run False Cure aswell, which is a super fun card that nobody ever sees coming.

So if you can't include "auto wins" (which is lame, but understandable), you're best playing a really flexible midrange deck.

Some includes I'd suggest:

-- Bitterblossom

-- razaketh, the foulblooded

-- The entire Cabal Coffers Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth suite. Vesuva, Thespian's Stage, Expedition Map.

-- Exsanguinate

-- Tutors. Pick one or more: Shred Memory Diabolic Intent Demonic Tutor Vampiric Tutor Beseech the Queen Dark Petition Sidisi, Undead Vizier

-- Lightning Greaves are good

-- Include some countermagic/protection: Boseiju, Who Shelters All Lapse of Certainty Imp's Mischief Withering Boon

-- I don't know if your group will allow it but I've always enjoyed Tainted Remedy / False Cure + Beacon of Immortality

-- Ditch Sorin Lord of Innistrad. Replace with Sorin Markov and Sorin, Grim Nemesis and Kaya, Ghost Assassin or maybe one of the two Elspeths.

-- I know they're expensive but consider Mana Vault \ Grim Monolith \ Mox Opal \ Chrome Mox \ Mana Crypt

-- Should run Dark Ritual and Cabal Ritual and Culling the Weak

-- Silence time walks someone.

-- Bitter Ordeal is pretty brutal in your deck.

-- Lingering souls seems low value as a one-off.

-- Sensei's Top.

-- Smokestack is easy to mitigate for you but brutal on your opponents.

-- Consider Marsh Flats and/or Flooded Strand or Bloodstained Mire, Polluted Delta Fetid Heath Strip Mine Westvale Abbey  Flip Wasteland Strip Mine Field of Ruin

-- Meekstone seems good here.

Sol Ring in modern. God, that would be annoying. Thank goodness its NOT Legal. Swords to Plowshares and False Cure are also not modern legal. Change that tag to casual!

+1 from me. Honestly, might go buy this decklist for my girlfriend tomorrow. Introduced her to mtg less than a year ago, and she is looking to expand her deck library. This seems simple enough to master and fast enough to play fairly competitively.

I run a similar version that she uses, and is like.. 5 times the cost of this, which uses False Cure + Kavu Predator and cards like Invigorate

Basic combo is as follows.

Play cards with alternative costs of opponents gain life, then convert that to damage through either False Cure and/or Kavu Predator and Berserk

Elvish Spirit Guide and Lotus Petal allow for first turn drops of Putrid Leech and Kavu Predator.

Quirion Ranger serves as a way to help with low land count, acts as a beater if need be and helps keep other beaters untapped after combat for defense.

Also, I would make another suggestion, though it is more favorable to my colors than yours. My suggestion would be having more options for protecting Tainted Remedy once it is out, and/or making sure it hits the board. For this I would remove maybe False Cure, though mostly Isochron Scepter. I personally love the idea of Isochron Scepter, though it is really kinda more of a dream card. You firstly need both cards. Secondly it is so easily targeted by artifact hate. If you find the Isochron Scepter being less and less effective against those you have played before and are ramping up the hate, here is my suggestion. Being that you do not have access to blue counter magic, and Dash Hopes is not consistent enough, I would look into stacking two or more Greater Auramancys. Though I do recognize this is a costly addition, even just as a one of.

The player is still gaining life, False Cure makes it so that when they gain life they essentially lose one life instead, it's an older card so the wording is a bit weird but if your friends continue to argue about it then the card could just as easily read: if a player would gain X life that player loses X life instead.

It's the first one. +3 then -6, ending at 7.

A card only does what it says, no more and no less, and False Cure doesn't say it stops the player from gaining life. Consider Tainted Remedy for an example of a card that actually does stop the life gain and replaces it with life loss instead.
