  • Conspiracies return, as well as other "draft matters" cards. Unlike original Conspiracy, these can be colored.

  • Hidden agenda - Mechanic on conspiracy; secretly name a card, then turn the conspiracy face-up to do something with that card

  • Double agenda - Same as above, but naming two cards.

  • Monarch - A player becomes the monarch by a card effect: the game doesn't start with a monarch. The monarch draws a card at each of their end steps. They lose the crown to a player if that player deals combat damage to them.

  • Council's dilemma - Each player votes for one of two options, then for each vote, do something.

  • Goad a creature. (Until your next turn, that creature attacks each combat if able and attacks a player other than you if able.)

  • Melee (Whenever this creature attacks, it gets +1/+1 until end of turn for each opponent you attacked with a creature this combat.)

The cards so far Show

All hail Quen Marchesa, long may she reign. (She's super cool, probably my next commander.)

Loving all the mechanics, Monarch especially as it looks much cooler and more fun to manipulate that simply who's on the throne.

Sovereign's Realm looks absolutely nutty. Illusion of choice has the potential to be an amazing card if there are a lot of good Council's Dilemma cards.

Also, Selvala in Summoner's Bond, I believe.

Already submitted Queen Marchesa and Kaya to the database!

Sovereign's Realm look like a really really weird card.

August 15, 2016 11:31 a.m.

kanokarob says... #4

It definitely does, but I wanna draft it anyway. You can play any and call of your best cards without fear of color or consistency against your landbase, because you just turn any unnecessary spells into lands! It's like mental magic without the memory!

So, monstrosity is back......

Didn't see that coming!

August 15, 2016 11:42 a.m.

kanokarob says... #8

For those interested, the Proclamation of Queen Marchesa.

I am all about her highness tbh. New favorite non-walker character.

August 15, 2016 11:43 a.m.

DrFunk27 says... #9

Inquisition at rare does little to nothing for its price. If you need them, I suggest you get them now.

Set looks awesome so far. Melee and Goad are cool.

August 15, 2016 11:55 a.m.

DiamondFlavor says... #10

Kinda cute interactions between Kaya and Marchesa. You can 0 Kaya to flick Marchesa if you need to reclaim Monarchy, and Marchesa has haste so she can still attack after the flick.

I mean, good luck drafting them both but it's flavorfully kinda cool.

Atony1400 says... #11

Domesticated Hydra and Illusion of Choice submitted into the database.

August 15, 2016 12:08 p.m.

Atony1400 says... #12

Knight of the Black Rose and Besmirch also submitted. Now I take a long break.

Anyways, nothing in this set peaks my interest quite yet, besides the IoK reprint of course.

Rare Inquisition of Kozilek? Next up: Rare Serum Visions.. pfff..

Lame_Duck says... #14

Does anyone know if they've announced whether this set is going to be released on MTGO and if so, how and when?

August 15, 2016 12:38 p.m.

DrFunk27 says... #15

smackjack I wouldn't laugh. That's completely possible lol

August 15, 2016 12:58 p.m.

KingTorg1 says... #16

Does anyone question Inquisition of Kozilek on Fiora, with Koizilek dead?

August 15, 2016 1:06 p.m.

DrFunk27 says... #17

KingTorg1 What do you mean? This reprint doesn't have anything to do with the lore and flavor of Conspiracy. Aaron Forsythe confirmed we will get reprints that don't pertain to the flavor of the set. Hence, we have Inquisiton.

August 15, 2016 1:14 p.m. Edited.

KingTorg1 says... #18

Hm. I must not have caught that. Good to know!

August 15, 2016 1:23 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #19

Lame_Duck: I don't believe Conspiracy as a set will be released in MTGO. I think the new cards from the original Conspiracy were put into Vintage Masters to release Conspiracy into MTGO.

August 15, 2016 1:51 p.m.

Lame_Duck says... #20

GoldGhost012: Yeah, that's exactly what happened. What I meant was: have they announced how they're going to release the cards on MTGO for Take the Crown? Because Vintage Masters was released like 10 days after the original Conspiracy came out in paper, so if they were planning something similar this time they should have announced it by now. I'm a little concerned that we're going to be waiting a while before we get to give the new cards a try online.

Atony1400 says... #21

@KingTorg1, Think about it, we also have Theros mechanics here too.

August 15, 2016 3:45 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #22

Monstrosity is at about a 3 on the Storm Scale, making it relatively easy to return to whenever.

August 15, 2016 3:57 p.m. Edited.

DarkLaw says... #23

Damn, IoK was the exact example of a card that needs reprinting that I mentioned. Though rareshifted does suck.

Do I care about anything else? Illusion of Choice is cool. The character ripoff of Fblthp is cool. I think that's it.

August 15, 2016 4:57 p.m.

kengiczar says... #24

Based on what I see so far I am disappointed.

Mechanics: A
Art: A
Flavor: A
Story: A
Cards: B

Dak is an A+. Kaya is between a (B) and an (A-). If I didn't play commander I would rank her between a (D) and a (C-). All the other spoiled cards seem like a (B) to me. Even Inquisition is only an (A).

I want some more solid (A+) cards that are played both in EDH and in Legacy. Oh well at this rate it seems I'll just buy a few singles. That's probably good news for my wallet.

Did anyone notice the typo on the Monarch token/card?

August 15, 2016 5:22 p.m.

Atony1400 says... #26

Yes I did, The_Redpill, it's kinda hilarious. If this is printed that way that cards going to actually be worth something.

August 15, 2016 5:51 p.m.

The_Redpill says... #27

Atony1400 well I hope they fix it, it's a glaring imperfection on an otherwise beautiful card

August 15, 2016 6:01 p.m.

Atony1400 says... #28

Same, but I'd want to own one if they are typo'd!

August 15, 2016 6:16 p.m.

where's the typo? the image on mythicspoiler doesn't look typoed.

DiamondFlavor says... #30

kengiczar we've seen about 10% of the set...

August 15, 2016 7:04 p.m.

kengiczar says... #31

@ DiamondFlavor: Hence why I said "Based on what I see so far I am disappointed."

A few days ago I was super hyped. Today I was let down. Tomorrow I may be excited. One of the fascinating things about humans is that we have the ability to form opinions based on not only fact but also perception. Our brains have formed in a way that encourages us to make opinions on things we are only partially informed on. We've also got this ability to change our minds. I've already done it once and I'll probably do it again.

MTG isn't sacred and I"m not going to walk on eggshells treating it like its religion, the pope, Jesus, or Mohammad.

Ahh.

@kengiczar IoK ain't got you hyped enough?

August 15, 2016 9:05 p.m.

will queen marchesa be legal in constructed formats? seems like she would be an interesting addition to a commander deck

August 15, 2016 9:16 p.m.

kengiczar says... #35

IoK is nice but I don't get hyped by cards that I wanted reprinted years ago and have long since stopped caring about.

You know what I am hyped about? The stories hinting that Selvala will become the new "Monarch".

If you can print IoK then you can have Ashiok show up on Fiora.

August 15, 2016 9:55 p.m. Edited.

GoldGhost012 says... #36

lazarusdraigon: yes, Queen Marchesa is legal in certain Constucted formats, notably Commander, Legacy, and Vintage. Which means that becoming the Monarch is also a thing that will occur in those format.

August 15, 2016 10 p.m.

Atony1400 says... #37

@lazarusdraigon, not just an addition, she as the commander! She's the first Mardu commander without a strategy you almost have to follow.

Just in case you guys havn't noticed, here are the cards that have been added into the database so far:

Besmirch, Domesticated Hydra, Illusion of Choice, Kaya, Ghost Assassin, Knights of the Black Rose, and Queen Marchesa.

I have also submitted about 8 more cards which havn't been accepted yet, but it's a start! Enjoy!

@ElspethOfValeron, (see above)

August 15, 2016 10:39 p.m.

kengiczar says... #38

I just realized Besmirch would be pretty hilarious on Kozilek, Butcher of Truth.

P1 Casts Koz, You (P2) steals and attacks P3, P3 can't do anything. P4 has one turn to get rid of Koz or he will get hit by it. P1 takes turn again attacking P4 with Koz. Go back to your turn and you Snap or Jace back Goad and then laugh at people for playing Eldrazi.

The double mana symbol r hurts but this might be an insane Grixis card.

August 15, 2016 10:47 p.m.

Some interesting cards thus far, stoked about IoK.

August 15, 2016 11:41 p.m.

What does lol stand for?

I feel incredibly bad for not already owning a Burning Wish. Maybe I never saw it because I mostly play EDH but that card is sweet. Hype meter is slowly beginning to fill.

"Protector of the Throne"

5W

Creature - Giant

When Guardian of the Throne enters the battlefield, you become the monarch.

If damage would be dealt to you, you may instead have that damage be dealt to Protector of the Throne.

enter image description here

"May" is very important.

kengiczar says... #46

August 16, 2016 6:33 a.m.

Protector of the Throne is very good for commander.

Its nice that being the monarch is pretty solid card draw in white without having to play weenies or being forced into a theme like enchantments.

Protector paired with protection from say Eight-and-a-Half-Tails or Mother of Runes could be a ver consistent card draw that white sorely needed in commander.

August 16, 2016 9:02 a.m.

DiamondFlavor says... #49

I don't think it's very good. It costs the same as Staff of Nin and more than Mind's Eye but is easier to remove, and if you lose Monarchy you're really putting yourself in a hole because somebody else is getting extra draw. And it's an otherwise extremely mediocre creature.

I also think White wants to play utility weenies anyway to grind out advantage with Sun Titan, Reveillark, Mentor of the Meek, and Skullclamp.

August 16, 2016 9:33 a.m.

DiamondFlavor You're sorta missing my point.

What you say is true don't get me wrong. Im just excited to be able to play white differently for a change. I don't think this is tier one deck material by any means but for a guy like me that loves brewing up kitchen table decks this is gold.

I think the ability is a natural fit for the color because it is the best choice to defend being the monarch. Im looking forward to potentially playing a BIG white deck. Weenies are fine but its getting stale. I like when Wizards finds a way to change up the norm without having to break the color pie.

Also the cards you mentioned as better draw don't offer up the opportunity to completely block damage that this guy provides with the right support. Again sorta christmaslandy to think he will always be out with something to grant protection, but not too crazy considering its white.
