Worldfire: The Ultimate Burn

Am I the only one that feels like Worldfire is going to be overplayed to death? Wither with a 30 land red deck, or a red and green manaramp/burn, I feel this card's going to see a lot of use...

uhr...are you on steriods? (badum tss)

but no.. Worldfire is 1 of those edh cards.. in standard if you play it youll both just be hoping to draw a haste/burn card and win..lol

maybe in extended with some weird rqamp deck featuring Staggershock ?

Many have speculated using an Oblivion Ring on something that can make the opponent lose 1 life once it ETB

Best I've heard so far was dropping an Oblivion Ring on a Manabarbs . Anyone not prepared for that will jaw drop when it happens.

In EDH you just suspend Worldfire alongside an Inferno Titan in a Jhoira of the Ghitu deck. Insta-kill 3 people.

Yea its a fun card and there were some great suggestions earlier when it was spoiled on how to abuse it. Oring seems viable. I think metalmagic was going to build another deck with oring and worldfire though he has a deck Set the World Ablaze that seems fun.

Here are 2 Worldfire decks. One by metalmagic and one by me: Setting Naya Ablaze. The Tiniest Spark.

I actually really like landgrafb's idea. Suspend Inferno Titan or something similar for a splashy win.

Malakir Bloodwitch , Blood Tithe , Hollowborn Barghest , etc.

Worldfire is functionally identical to Sway of the Stars , so I'm guessing it will be banned in commander.

O-Ring on an Elderscale Wurm and maybe another on Manabarbs . Pricey, but worth it.

July 8, 2012 9:34 a.m.

In standard? O-ring a Curse of the Pierced Heart . Worldfire, curse returns, attach to opponent, pass turn, win.

Savvy?

The Manabarbs idea is just for the lulz. The most efficient way to do it is to just have a Thragtusk on the field when Worldfire resolves. There is literally no way to deal with a 3/3 beast token with no lands on the field and no cards in hand. They will either draw a land but have nothing to cast, or draw a spell and have no mana. Then you win.

landgrafb gets it. Worldfire +Thragtusk is a real thing...and ramping to get there is a real thing. Someone is going to make this combo work. If pro's are going to build decks with 250 cards just for Battle of Wits then one of them is going to do some damage with this.

How about Spelltwine ?

July 13, 2012 2:32 p.m.

That will only work if one graveyard has a Worldfire and the other has an instant or sorcery that will win you the game. You're correct in thinking that you can set it up so Worldfire goes off, and then the other spell. It's just going to be tricky to pull a win condition out of your opponent's grave.

It's still dependent on your opponent having a winning spell in graveyard but Civilized Scholar  Flip , Dangerous Wager , Desolate Lighthouse , Faithless Looting , Mad Prophet , Rummaging Goblin , and Wild Guess are all handy ways to get the Worldfire into your graveyard. The Scholar, Prophet, and Goblin are good because they cost nothing to use which is nice since Spelltwine costs 6. Also, Reforge the Soul could be handy as it will help with getting cards into your opponents graveyard as well as maybe some black for Mind Rot and such. Mind Sculpt would be good too.

Here's an idea. Use stuff like Arcane Melee and Goblin Electromancer to reduce cost. Mix it with Hypersonic Dragon to give it instant speed. Cast a Searing Spear and then interrupt with a Worldfire . Worldfire will resolve and then Searing Spear happens. At least I think that is how interrupts work. And if so, good game.

Doesn't matter. Standard won't play it, Modern won't play it, Legacy likely won't find a use for it, and it's banned in EDH as of this month.

It's just too expensive and too hard to work around to be of any use to a format. In EDH, it makes Jhoira of the Ghitu far and away one of the best Commanders to choose from, hence the ban.

Ramp to a quick Epic Experiment for 9+. If you hit your Worldfire , you're also likely to get at least 1 burn.

Like I said. Standard won't play it.
