The Best Anti-Control Card for Green?

General forum

I am looking for the best cards to make my creatures uncounterable or save them from a counterspell.

Vexing Shusher

Savage Summoning

Guttural Response

Those to me seem to be the best ones I found but there might be better ones. So people of Tappedout which one do you think is the best (If you think something else is better besides the ones posted tell me). :3

I've always liked Autumn's Veil and Ranger's Guile

I didn't even know Autumn's Veil existed very nice. It is in the category of being chosen the best one for sure.

Vexing Shusher looks to be the best on the list because he's reusable and makes noncreature spells uncounterable.

The problem with cards like Autumn's Veil and Savage Summoning is they only end up playing into the control decks plans. Now every creature you get on the board might dodge the counters in hand, but all their removal becomes 2 for 1s against you. And worse trying to put too many of these effects in the deck only dilutes the number of actual threats you're playing.

Trading 1 for 1 with a counterspell or any spot removal spell is actually pretty favorable for you, the control deck is trying to get ahead of you in card advantage and you're trying to stick a threat to the board.

So the best anti-control cards are actually creartures that are resilient in some way. Examples:

  • Thragtusk forces them to 2 for 1 in order to answer a single creature.

  • Mistcutter Hydra dodges the counter, forces damage that turn and dodges some of their responses.

  • Thrun, the Last Troll gets around pretty much everything but mass exile and legions of chump blocks.

The other option are cards that give more than a single cards worth of value, often siding into planeswalkers is part of the anti-control plan for their ability to continually effect the field. A resolved planewalker is often much harder for a control deck to deal with, and can easily be the deciding factor in many match-ups. Most of the Garruk iterations are quite good against control.

Yeah I am starting to think so to but Leyline of Lifeforce can be play at the very beginning if you get it and its eternal the only thing bad about it is that it can be countered if you don't get it right away.

Thrun, the Last Troll is really the quintessential anti-control Green card.

If you're just combatting blue control (that will include counterspells, yes) then I can't imagine a better solution than Choke .

Asceticism has some practical uses.

Came back to a bunch of comments wow thanks everyone. :3

What I am mostly looking for is a way to protect things from counterspells rather than creatures that are just Anti-Control like Thrun.

@ ClockworkSwordfish That card looks amazing except if they running duels.

@ Jarrheadd0 Too expensive that something more for EDH.

I am glad I got to see all the other options as well. :D

Terra Stomper is a massive uncounterable beat-stick that can't be effectively chump-blocked.

That counts for something.

Snowstorm Using Choke on a player with dual lands like Volcanic Island , Hallowed Fountain and the like is pretty darn effective. If the lands have the basic land type Island, they'll be hit by Choke .

My deck isnt tribal at all, but I run Cavern of Souls bc you really want your wincons to hit the field, you dont want to tap out for nothing.

oh man xzavierx Gaea's Herald is sweet, going in my EDH deck.

Well, Vexing Shusher can't be countered on its own. Gaea's Herald can be.

But really, if control is a problem for the OP, why not both?
