A question on lands!

Hi there,

I've got some questions regarding lands.

  1. If Woodland Cemetery is on my battlefield may I play another Woodland Cemetery not tapped?

  2. If I want to play Mutilate and on my battlefield are 3x Woodland Cemetery and one Swamp do all creatures get -4/-4 or only -1/-1? So, does Woodland Cemetery count as a swamp?

  3. Am I allowed to pick lands like Woodland Cemetery with Farseek?

  4. With Caravan Vigil I am only allowed to search for Forest, Swamp, Island, Plains and Mountain right?

  5. Am I allowed to destroy basic land cards with Craterize?

Thanks for your help,

ronolulu

Woodland Cemetery doesn't say swamp/forest in it's land type so no you couldn't play the 2nd one untapped. With Mutilate, the creature's would only get -1/-1 because it doesn't have swamp in it's land type. Farseek wouldn't grab it either. you are correct about Caravan Vigil. However you could search for a shockland with it since they have one of the 5 basic lands in their land type.

Yes you can destroy basic lands with Craterize or any land for that matter since it doesn't say just basic land for the target.

  1. No, Woodland Cemetery requires you to have a Swamp or Forest in play to enter untapped, and the first Woodland Cemetery is neither of those.
  2. -1/-1 because you only control one Swamp.
  3. No, Farseek allows you to find a Plains, Island, Swamp, or Mountain card, and Woodland Cemetery is none of those.
  4. Correct, Caravan Vigil only allows you to search for a basic land.
  5. A basic land is a still a land, and Craterize destroys a target land, so yes.

Just as a tip, cards have all types stated in their type line, including lands. For example, Overgrown Tomb has the type line "Land - Swamp Forest" and is thus a Forest and a Swamp. Woodland Cemetery has neither of those additional types as its type line simply reads "Land".

KnightsBattlecry001 you would be wrong on your answer for the Caravan Vigil finding shock lands, it only says basic lands.

A land only is considered a swamp if it has the land type swamp. Watery Grave, Overgrown Tomb work for Farseek and Mutilate because while they are nonbasic, they have the type "swamp" listed on the card.

Lands like Watery Grave don;t work as basic lands because they don;t have the "basic" supertype that a Swamp does. Just like Murder can hit legendary creatures like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben even though they have the supertype "legendary," Craterize hits any land, be it Seat of the Synod, Swamp, or Eye of Ugin.

KnightsBattlecry001 Is slightly off, as mentioned. Shocklands like Overgrown Tomb don't count as basic lands because they don't have the "basic" supertype (they do count as their land types, though; Swamp and Forest in the case of Overgrown Tomb). What does count, though are the basic snow lands such as Snow-Covered Plains from Ice Age/Coldsnap. Note the type line: "Basic Snow Land - Plains." So it counds as a basic land and a plains for the purposes of card interaction.
