Card creation challenge
Custom Cards forum

Ok, heres how this works. You create a card to the specifications of the person above you, then list your own card idea for the next person. I'll start.
Variety XX
Sorcery
If X is 2 or lower, draw X cards. If X is 3, put X +1/+1 counters on X target creatures. If X is 4, return X target creatures from your graveyard to the battlefield. If X is 5 or more, Variety deals x damage to target creature or player. If X is 10 or more, you win the game.
Create a life gaining multicolored Turtle with power twice it's toughness or vice versa.

Trample, Ward (X equals the number of creatures each opponent control that share a creature type)
Species Specialist gets +X +X where x equals the number of creatures each opponent controls that share a creature type.

"She takes the whole 'Knowledge is power thing' pretty literally."
Something to respond to typal archetypes, anti-typal? Try making another anti-typal kind of card. The wording isn't perfect but I tried haha

Dana_in_Love845 says... #4
Anti-tribal stuff is pretty fun, if a little impractical. I do think I would re-word it to be "number of creatures your opponents control that share a creature type," rather than "each," if that helps.
Leyline of Suppression
Enchantment
If Leyline of Suppression is in your opening hand, you may begin the game with it on the battlefield.
When Leyline of Suppression enters the battlefield, choose a creature type. (This still takes effect if you begin the game with it on the battlefield.)
Other permanents lose abilities that mention the chosen creature type.
Make another leyline card. Or make a commander focused around leylines.

Zyzoth, The First Avatar
Legendary Creature - Avatar
If you start the beginning of the game with three or more different permanents on the battlefield, you may put Zyzoth on the battlefield under your control. If you searched your library for it, shuffle your library.
Each time a Layline you control would have an ability activate or trigger, it triggers an additional time. You may choose new targets.
Leyline spells you control cost less to cast and are 4/4 Avatar creatures in addition to their other types.
5/7
Lol imagine starting the game with 17 power and 4 bodies on the battlefield all because you shuffled and drew well hahaha
But trying to get at least 3 out of 12 leylines in an opening hand? Yeah you kinda deserve it.
Apparently there are only 12 Leylines in the whole game?? I really thought there would have been more at this point... huh, neat.
Make a new Leyline. Bonus points for being our first colorless Leyline.

Creatures you control with power 1 or less cannot be blocked
"Though Zhalfir is gone, they leylines still cross the land."
this in a red deck might be spicy, orrrr it might be a mid card. I don't know

Murder by Crows
Enchantment
When Murder by Crows enters the battlefield, create three 1/1 black Bird creature tokens with flying.
Whenever a Bird you control deals combat damage to an opponent, roll a six sided dice. If you roll a 1 or 2, create a clue token. A 3 or 4, create a food token. A 5 or 6, create a treasure token.
Whenever you sacrifice a clue, food or treasure token create a 1/1 black Bird creature token with flying.
Crows are highly intelligent, love to gather random things and bring them back to their owners / people they trust, and can become quite aggressive. So this card showcases all of that, without being overly complex.

For those unaware, Jiang Yanggu is sort of like Garruk in that he can grow the natural strength of those around him. His dog, Mowu, can actually turn to stone which allows Jiang to bring him with through the blind eternities, without harming or killing the dog. Mu Yanling has control over the wind, and to a lesser extent storms.
Jiang and Mu, Powerful Storm
Legendary Planeswalker - Yanggu Yanling
When this Planeswalker enters the battlefield, create a 3/3 green Dog legendary creature token named Mowu. It has indestructible.
+1 Target creature you control gets +2/+2 and gains trample until end of turn. Untap it if it was tapped.
+1 Scry 2 then reveal the top card of your library. If it is a land you may put it into your hand. You may play an additional land this turn.
-6 Until end of turn, land cards you control become 4/4 elemental creature tokens with flying and "If this creature would die this turn, regenerate it." Untap them. They gain haste.
4
Lets see another dual Planeswalker card. To try and make it a bit more challenging, and a bit more unique, see how many of the following attributes you can adhere to:
- Planeswalker choices that each have 3 or less cards to their printing
- Two different mono-colored Planeswalkers
- Planeswalkers who don't seem to have powers that would naturally align, such as Jiang and Mu, that could be made to work reasonably well
Or if you want a really hard one, Karn & Ugin while representing both of their powers evenly. You'll just have to look those up if you want to take a crack at it ;)

Honestly I'm surprised a Phoenix with Dredge doesn't already exist?
I was going to add some type of ETB effect like destroying target permanent, but I opted for some powerful offensive and defensive keyword abilities instead. A low P/T also means it's easy to be killed, so it's easy to Dredge. Because of that, adding an ETB effect seems like it would be overkill without the MV being through the roof, which would then defeat the purpose of being a constant threat.
So yeah it's kinda bare bones, but that's for a design choice. I didn't want it to be an unplayable MV7 or MV8, you know? And even an MV6 becomes a bit hard to justify.

Oh, obligatory Bojuka Bog is a must in his deck, obviously... obviously...
I'd love to see a legendary creature who uses the Level Up mechanic.
Remember, the field of text for Level Up isn't nearly as big because you have to divide it into multiple sections. So you can't have giant elaborate and complex mechanics.
And that's exactly why it's a good challenge. How will you make a truly legendary creature, with such restrictions? >:)

TypicalTimmy says... #45
So something I just realized, and decided to leave in, is that per his wording you could actually exile a spell and then cast that very same spell! Let me explain.
Let's say you want to cast Shatterstorm because your opponents just have far too many mana rocks and value and combo pieces on the board. But what's this, someone counters it! Oh no!
So you could pay the , and exile the spell.
- (Rework the ability text to , , exile target spell you control: You may cast a card you own in exile with mana value equal to or less than the exiled spells.)
Now that you've paid the activation costs, you get to pick a card you own in exile with MV equal to or less than 4 and cast it without paying its mana costs.
Well guess what? Shatterstorm is in exile and has MV 4 or less!
This means you can subvert a counter spell, by exiling it and recasting it. Not only is the spell a new identity on the stack, it'll actually resolve BEFORE their counter spell, which no longer has a legal target!
Hahaha oooh that's so dirty.
