Should I Replace Visara the Dreadful in These Decks?

Commander Deck Help forum

I have a copy of Visara the Dreadful in these two EDH decks, because she can destroy creatures for the generals of those decks to steal, but I wonder if she is the best possible way to do that, since I cannot both attack with her and then user her ability; each of those decks also does contain a copy of Seedborn Muse, but there is no guarantee that I shall draw both of those creatures in the same game, so Visara is rather a risky choice.

For my Teneb, the Harvester deck, I am considering Archfiend of Depravity, Archpriest of Shadows, or Indulgent Tormentor, and, for The Mimeoplasm deck, I am considering either Acidic Slime or Nemesis of Reason, because all of those creatures synergize with the themes of those decks.

What does everyone else say about this? Should I keep Visara the Dreadful in those decks, or replace her with other creatures, and, if I do, with what creatures should I replace her?

Personally, I really like Visara for being such an awesome classic card, and I love the flavor text, but I think it's not the most reliable way to destroy creatures unless you can give her haste.

I think it's a good card, and absolutely the best gorgon they've ever printed, and great for flavor, but maybe not the best for power level. So, up to you how much that matters. The 3 black mana is a little tough, and having to choose between attacks and destroy for a six mana creature makes it a little awkward. I mean, I'd keep her, but that's just me : )

Some suggestions off the top of my head

Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni You'll probably be getting a lot of attacks in with deathtouch creatures to hit ninjitsu

Firja's Retribution is kinda serra angel and destroy in one. Plus vigilance works very will with the tap ability, and can help some of your other random angels.

Elenda, the Dusk Rose can get very big as you destroy creatures

Dire Fleet Poisoner flash and deathtouch is pretty fun to play with, and worst case it's just another deathtouch creature

Braids, Arisen Nightmare is great for 3 mana, and you get an activation the same turn you play her. Can get so much value in commander.

Niko9 thank you for those recommendations, and I shall see which of those are best for my decks!

Does anyone else have any feedback on this matter? I would certainly appreciate some further opinions on whether or not I should keep Visara in those decks.

Would Alpha Deathclaw make a good replacement for Visara the Dreadful? Its ability can be used only twice, rather than indefinitely, but it can destroy any permanent and also does not interfere with its ability to attack and block.

Hmm, I haven't played with Deathclaw, so not completely sure, but to me it looks like kind of a lateral move. Deathclaw can be better removal hitting any permanent, but can also set you back more because it's such a big target and I'm assuming it wouldn't go monsterous the same turn as it gets cast, so everyone sees it coming. I think it would really hurt if you cast Alpha Deathclaw then next turn made it monstrous, just to have someone holding up Path to Exile or something.

It's probably easier to cast than Visara, and the pay off can be better, but I think it's a much bigger target. I'd honestly stick with Visara between the two. Whether she is swinging or tapping, she's always doing something good : )

Have you thought at all about Tragic Slip in either of your decks? With so many creatures dying, it can be incredible removal and hit crazy targets like Blightsteel Colossus

Niko9, I have not thought about Tragic Slip, and it is a nice card, but I am hoping to replace Visara with another creature, as creatures offer excellent versatility.

Makes total sense : )

If you have lots of death triggers, Soldevi Adnate can be a great way to ramp and hit effects. Not exactly a replacement for Visara, but such a fun card.

Would Archpriest of Shadows be a good replacement for Visara in either of thsoe decks?
