Your small creatures, especially Spore Frog might do better with some more creature recursion, maybe something like Malevolent Awakening , Undertaker or Phyrexian Reclamation , to keep a Fog effect at the ready.

EDH isn't my forte, though, so I'm not sure how good my advice here is.

legendofa: Thank you for the comment and the suggestions. This is a pretty good idea in general. I'm not the biggest fan of Undertaker here, as small creatures tend to die pretty easily thanks to Thantis's ability, and Undertaker's ability needs a target, so itvcan't always be activated to prevent it from dying. The other two are great ideas.

Gleeock: I updated it. What do you think?

Like the other guy mentioned, spore frog would be good in this deck and can be recur with Meren of Clan Nel Toth and get some extra value for your elder

It looks pretty good to me. Still looks different enough from other Thanti decks I've seen to be 'your own' deck. If you are ever having problems with frequent targeted removal on your midrange bangers you can look at Dawnglade Regent because monarch & protecting bangers is fun. Though I think the deck probably is already mana hungry & I know you're not going as much for cheating creatures in or having a high volume of monarch.

aznb01777: When that comment was written, I had a Spore Frog in here, but I dropped it recently. I don't feel comfortable including Meren in here, as there are no other ways to get Experience counters, so she'll be pretty underwhelming very often. Thanks a lot for the comment still, I always like having to think about suggestions and defending my position regarding them.

Gleeock: Thanks for the kind words. Regarding spot removal, I recently added Gargos, Vicious Watcher as a pseudo-protection. Dawnglade Regent seems terrific in here, as many times, my opponents won't be able to take the monarch from me. Thanks for that suggestion.

Very unique and cool deck have you thought about adding Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs and Rite of the Raging Storm

Good Job

Heh. I notice you found my Thantis deck. Thanks for the upvote. I haven't played in the last year so all my decks are out of date, but that deck is fun. Forcing people to attack throws off the playstyle of at least half the people at the table.

One card i thought would be good with Thantis is Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor . Haven't tried it yet though.

carpecanum Your list still looks great. Varchild is another cool addition, I'm not too sure it really fits here, though.

How is the Thantis'ing going? Have you gotten to playtest some more? I had a solid Thantis-win this weekend. Didn't actually get to cast Thantis, but the rest of the deck forces some discomfort, so it was ok :) Consider Binding the Old Gods as a surprisingly good little utility card. I found the slow-ramp after the spendy removal to be worth it. Consider that it uses 2 important slots on one card (swiss-army knife removal, then ramp). I think it is a bit of a sleeper. If you are like me you like your removal to also keep the game moving in some way (your way :) )

Gleeock: Hey, another great suggestion. My LGS still isn't allowed to open its gaming room due to Covid, so there aren't any chances of getting a game in. I can't wait to finally get to play the deck, but I'm not even sure it will be possible before next year.

Gleeock: Little addition regarding the Tantis'ing: While I'm generally looking forward to finally play a game again in general, I'm actually getting impatient because I want to play this deck so badly. So you could say Thantis has me in her web...

I'm excited for you to play it. It took me a while to learn the Jund kitchen-sink ways, but now the labor of love seems to be fun & impactful every time I play it. The key is that it usually is impactful on the game - which should hold true for your evolving build considering the list of cards I see. I like a list that always has a significant game impact even if the win isn't there

May 29, 2021 5:07 p.m.

Gleeock: That's a lot how it feels from goldfishing. It will hopefully Jund'em quite a lot ;)

The deck has me fascinated. It really is open-ended, and I can come up with possible changes all the time. I'll propably add Yurlok of Scorch Thrash , Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs and Kardur, Doomscourge soon, and considering the deck then will have 12 legendary creatures, I'm also considering a Time of Need . I especially like Yurlok. He simply does everything the deck wants, and from his backstory, it feels as if he would totally partner with Thantis.

I've always been curious about Thantis, the Warweaver as it seems like it could be quite a political deck without being the typical pillow-fort, defensive style, and these types of decks often make play experience more fun. I guess my question is how does this play? Do you use Thantis politically to keep your opponents hitting each other and not you? Do people enjoy being at the table with this deck win or lose? I'm curious mostly because I want to find a deck to pull out the for the game after I destroy the group with nasty combos that they know they'll have more fun with, and Josh and Jimmy on CZ suggested that Thantis was such a commander.

I am really digging the diverse interaction category

June 10, 2021 11:15 p.m.

Guerric: First, thanks for comment and upvote. To help with your question: I haven played this deck in an actual game due to Covid restrictions, as my LGS hasn't been allowed to offer the gaming day for more than year now. If you'd like answers regarding game experience, I'd sugges asking Gleeock, as he massively helped me tuning this deck.

The way my deck is intended to be played isn't very political, as I simply want to be as unattractive to attack as possible. There are some political cards in here ( Healing Technique , Skullwinder ), but I mostly want to hide behind blockers while my opponents have problems keeping any creatures alive. It's basically a very Jund-y deck in that I have masses of good individual creatures and lots of ways to grind out a win in very attacky games in the form of lifegain, removal and card draw.

I'm heavily looking forward to playing the deck. I'm actually getting excited for the day.

Gleeock: Thanks, mate. That's great to hear. I didn't yet see it this way, great perspective on it.

Yea, So I've played a similar version. I've found that the games are pretty close usually as there are a bunch of midrange plays that are not game ending. You do have to get used to a different play style with it. Dmg and life total pressure is important in this deck versus many others where this does not matter. I personally never expect Thantis to be around too long, but she is a really good game altering commander when you've been picked apart or you've set the table for chaos. It is very fun to see other players struggle with threat recognition when you build it right, because decisions usually are out of comfort zones, which is my entire goal.

June 12, 2021 9:48 a.m.

Gleeock: I actually did some playtesting yesterday (with four times myself...times are rough) will a pod of the following decks of mine (all of which are uploaded here in more or less updated state):

Lurrus of the Dream-Den eggs/aristocrats

Siona, Captain of the Pyleas

Moraug, Fury of Akoum

And finally my above Thantis. While Lurrus basically annihilated the table including the floor beneath it, the way Thantis played out was exactly like you described: It put out some major threats and would have had a pretty big influence if any of it could have kept any of the three boards it build (as I said, Lurrus went totally nuts, also Moraug had to double-wipe before and after Siona went off on turn 5...).

Yep, that's why I've gone so heavy on graveyard hate as my primary hate because it is essentially an attrition deck and if you are not careful graveyard decks will run away with the attrition game.. Mine reflects how often I see aristocrats and Muldrotha, the Gravetide . But it is really fun to mostly not focus on control and then trying to force everyone into attrition games. I like making situations where people have to deal with other threats because the spider don't care.

June 12, 2021 4:23 p.m.

Gleeock: Great point about the graveyard hate. I'll definitely expand on this!

This deck looks really awesome and I think it'll be a real powerhouse, have you thought about maybe adding in Spore Frog again? They seem like a lot of value for the deck
