Getting ready for the loss of Theros! —Sept. 3, 2015

I have recently decided to attempt to bring this deck into BFZ with us! I would very much appreciate as many suggestions for Theros block cards replacements for this deck! Thanks for all the support y'all! If you guys have any questions feel free to ask! If anyone else has a request for other budget deck builds for standard (or commander!!!) then go ahead and ask!

Thanks!!

I think that center soul should be replaced with gods willing, because they can respond to the rebound and you can get the scry.

how do you deal with decks that drown in sorrow you? or just board wipe you?

First off synonimous, That is a fair point, but Center Soul allows protection for 2 turns, compare that to god's willing, which gives it a one turn, then scry, but that sets up next turn. So maybe god's willing? I'll play test a bit. ren562 to be honest, a board wipe would be a pain, it's happened before with crux or end, drown normally isn't a problem due to the buffs from numerous sources, but I have RTTR and plus i'm getting my hands on some Athreos!

Yeah, that was my only issue, please let me know when you get the athreos please

After playtesting a bit I really like how this plays and I might just put it together myself. Any suggestions for improvements if I am willing to spend a little more?

Yeah like the only issues there is, is getting away from board wipe spells. return of the ranks is good, but im still figuring how athreos works

ComradeJim270 Hey man, yeah this deck could be buffed up with things like:
-Athreos, God of Passage-Temple of Silence (this really is iffy, because tapped lands but also gets that scry, so If you run any then 2 would most likely be the bet amount-another sorin (I've been experimented with running another main board, and its going pretty well)-Hero's Downfall is better removal but more costly, replace ultimate price with these most likely-Heliod, God of the Sun has shown interest for me. But I don't have any so I can't playtest with them sadly. -My current deck version (which is slightly different from this one) runs 2 boardwipes main End Hostilities, and Crux of Fate. They have saved my ass alot.

But against boardwipes, well athreos is the only real protection.

Thanks, and those do sound helpful. I already have an Athreos I'm not using, too.

The strange thing I am seeing here is the number of one and two-ofs in the instant and sorcery categories. It seems very strange, but doesn't appear to hurt the deck at all. Still, I'm curious why it's built that way and how that's worked for you!

[Blood-soaked Champion] can help against board wipes. bringing them back from the grave using raid can help you recover pretty fast.

Also Palace Siege can help against Wipes too

Sorry, Languish spoiled in MOrigins :(. Kills every card in your deck...

synonimous says... #12

You could splash red for Goblin Rabblemaster and Crackling Doom

June 30, 2015 10:25 a.m.

yeah but with Athreos, God of Passage, Languish doesn't really mean much, synonymous. either they all go back to the hand or you eat a crap ton of life.

June 30, 2015 12:15 p.m.

especially if you are running buffs like Spear of Heliod or if you sack in response to the Languish into Blood-Chin Fanatic to drop Athreos, God of Passage below devotion.

B/W Orzhov Warriors Tribal is my current FNM version of this deck, as of a few months now. it runs well. I swear by Athreos, God of Passage, worried of what to do when it rotates but until then...

First off, I have covered why I do not want to run Bloodsoaked Champ before. I do not want to go through and type it all up. But trust me, through all my playtesting, it has only screwed up the deck and has caused me to lose.

Splashing red Is no something I would like to do, since this deck is budget, splashing red only means making it more expensive, with the fetches, and more temples. I do have all the cards to splash red IRL, but I don't because the idea is to keep a cheap budget deck that still does well!

Finally got my hands a full playset of Athreos from a friend of mine!

If you guys like this budget deck, and are looking for a budget deck into modern! Take a look at this budget modern deck I made!

June 30, 2015 12:45 p.m.

Splashing red gets greedy and too clunky for the tribal mechanic inherent for this deck, plus Goblin Rabblemaster is about to rotate out anyway.

After running my own version of your deck at FNM, I understand why you don't run Bloodsoaked. It's more of a liability than anything. In a deck this fast it often doesn't end up coming back and it really sucks when all you need is a blocker.

I notice you've changed up the board a bit. No more Rush of Battle. Is that working out? It's been very powerful for me when it shows up. You still have Ultimate Price. I'm always nervous to run it in this format with so many cheap multicolored creatures so I've been using Hero's Downfall... but the cheaper cost is pretty nice.

My version is here if you care to take a look: Off to War!.

ComradeJim270 Thanks for trying out the deck! When I took out rush of battle I found I don't really need it that much, as having a sorin or great teacher's decree works just as well and sometimes better (especially when you have both on the field :D). I find that life gain is always something I get from Seeker of the Way, and I've gained about a total of something like 19 life from one little seeker with lots of spells, so why have more lifegain with rush when you can have two rushes (without lifelink but Idc) for the price of one! Ultimate Price is meant to be a budget place holder, if you have money to upgrade this deck, first thing to buy is hero's downfalls I run 3 in my non budget version of this deck. But for the purposes of this budget decklist, I removed them. If you guys want me to post my non-bugdet version of this deck just ask in the comments and I will do my best to post it as soon as I can!

My non-budget version (still similar just smaller changes) is up!
All is quiet, and in one swift rush, the battle won

Feel free to drop some suggestions and I hope you guys enjoy!

Loving this deck, +1 from me. I will be making a version of this as soon as I can save up some $$$ :)

(Sorry for double post) I think replacing one Sorin for Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip from origins would be worth doing. Expensive right now, but maybe for your "All is quiet" deck. I luckily pulled one last night.. so I'll be adding that to the deck when I get this one.

@Virositae: I'd recommend shifting over to a somewhat pricier version, it's still very affordable. If Thoughtseize is in your budget it's very powerful and a good investment.

This deck (my own standard deck was based off it) has in my experience gotten a little less powerful since Origins came out and brought RDW, elves, thopters and other fast decks into the fold. But that depends on your meta. Also, some key cards here are rotating soon. Athreos is not a bad card to hand onto post-rotation because EDH players will want to get them, but it won't be playable in Standard after BFZ comes out.

It's still an extremely fun deck that tends to catch a lot of opponents off-guard and is more resilient than many aggro decks are. It folds to RDW but can win pretty much any other matchup.

I'm not sure I'd run Lili right now. She really doesn't do nearly as much as Sorin; she'll bring back maybe one creature or make an opponent discard something they don't especially need before she dies. Sorin allows a massive life-swing that a lot of decks struggle to recover from assuming they even survive after four or five turns of getting the crap beaten out of them.
