Creating a curve —May 22, 2017

I was pretty happy with this list, except that the mana curve looked more like a square. So I've been changing the list lately to make the deck more consistent in this regard. It was especially difficult to cut cards from the 6cmc slot. Things I've cut:

  • Duplicant: a great card for sure, but with Noxious Gearhulk being more in theme, and duplicant being in so many of my other decks, I decided to cut it here.
  • Austere Command: another card that's in pretty much any other white deck I play. Although I really like this card, it was either this or Yosei, the Morning Star that had to leave.
  • Skullclamp: this card actually does not synergize in this deck as well as some other decks I play. I decided to cut it here, along with Reassembling Skeleton
  • Alhammarret's Archive: this ended up being more like a win more card.
  • Vindicate: another hard card to cut, but looking at my large single target removal suite, vindicate is actually less powerful in my meta compared to exile-based effects.

Some cards I've added:

  • Myr Retriever: I wanted some more on-curve recursion cards.
  • MImic Vat: good overall, but better yet with Vish
  • Decree of Pain: slightly different than austere command, but smooths out the curve well and is another draw spell.
  • Gray Merchant of Asphodel: I apparently never read this card correctly until recently...

I've also cut some other cards and replaced them with cards with similar purpose but a more fitting cmc.

Have you thought about Blind Obedience? It gains you life and it disrupts your opponents

Hey Ocelot44, thanks for your comment and for checking out the deck!

I never considered Blind Obedience before. It's a great card for sure, but it is also a politically high impact card. It aggravates and makes enemies right away because you immediately hinder the game plan of all your opponents, increasing the chance they will all see you as the primary target. I usually try to steer away from such cards so I can decide myself who will become my enemy and ally in a game. It would be a great fit in a stax kind of deck, but lockdown was not the strategy I was going for.

Hm. Ok I can see your point. How do you feel about Crypt Ghast then? It slowly drains your enemies' life totals, and it hella ramps you if you or someone else has got an Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth on the field

Ocelot44 Yes, that's a great option. I will put that on my maybe list to consider. Thanks!
