RAVNICA ALLEGIANCE UPDATE —Jan. 25, 2019

Second half of the Ravnica Guilds are here! There aren't as many cool things in this set as compared to last set but we do have Gruul which brings a lot to the table for new creature based strategies. Really looking forward to the next set War of the Spark to bring a lot of new things to the table!

(EXCLUSION) Skarrgan Hellkite: While I am high on this art (Mammoth Hat), this is a worse Glorybringer in my opinion. The Riot mechanic is really good but most of the time it going to be a 4 mana 5/5 with the ability being even more irrelevant. If this ability does provide more use than Glorybringer's, that could be an easy switch.

Niv-Mizzet, Parun > Archangel Avacyn  Flip

  • So I totally forgot this card during the last update because it wasn't appealing due to not having the mana cost being reduced and the restriction on mana. However, with the appeal of this card in Standard, going to give it a run in this deck to see if it's applicable. Avacyn has been good and has had it spots but there's only so much room for cut in terms of adding new dragons so we'll see how this goes.

Rhythm of the Wild > Journey to Eternity  Flip

  • Wow I'm love with this card. Riot was a very cool mechanic that Wizards brought for the Gruul clan. This provides a lot of usefulness in either providing more power or immediate haste which is exactly the type of flexibility the deck wants. Plus, this makes our creatures uncounterable which is great. Journey was a nice card but there was no effective way to abuse it in terms of being able to flip it ourselves.

Domri, Chaos Bringer > Sarkhan Vol

  • Trying out this new Domri to see if provides better use than Sarkhan. With how much mass haste the deck has, Domri's first ability can provide flexibility on whether you want to swing or not. The second ability provides some rebuild power by drawing up to 2 creatures. The ultimate is unfortunate in that it doesn't have anything to do with dragons but getting 4/4 trample beast every end step isn't bad at all.

Have you considered here Toxic Deluge as early boardwipe?

Sorry been busy with school!

Vlasiax I only play EDH in person as it's the whole reason for the format IMO. I'm more of a fan of ramp that gets cards out of my deck which is why I run all the land searching cards. My mana base can't really change unless they come out with Red/Green duals that are optimal to use to shift the color pie. And yes every single Sarkhan is required and every single one has been good. I also have't found the need for an early board wipe. Either someone else will wipe because they release someone with all the early creatures is the bigger threat or I'll have enough dragons to where if they swing at me, they'll probably die on the swing back. Otherwise, I was probably losing the game anyway so adding 1 field wipe as the deck is pretty packed won't make a difference.

h7u9i: Kaalia is good but really on turn 4 and has to stay alive to keep going. If I were to include a cheater, it would be Quicksilver Amulet. The most reliable of all the cheaters in my opinion.

Teazia Yes, Selvala, Explorer Returned I think is an awesome budget alternative. Go for it and let me know how it does!

Hey after playing with Rhythm of the Wild during pre-release, I'm digging it. Anti-counter and the choice of haste or a buff seems pretty good for a Fervor effect. I'd love to know what you think. Or possibly, Domri, Chaos Bringer

chiri Funny you should mention it, I had both of those in my pre-release as well and would agree! Check back later this week when I do the Ravnica Allegiance update with some changes and thought's I have at the moment with the deck.
