Second Round of Cleanup —July 6, 2015
Hey guys, it's time for another round of cleaning up the comments. I thought I would reply to some of the comments at large through this post, while I am at it.
Firstly, I need to give a huge thank you to Final_Origins for responding to most of peoples comments on this deck in a timely manner and saying pretty much exactly what I would have if not for the fact that I was super busy with work all last week. So thanks!
It seems like Dash Hopes is not a good fit in this deck. I have always wanted to find a deck that it fits well in, but this is just not it. I do like the suggestion of running Vines of Vastwood in here, but I am at a crossroads. I also don't have any draw spells, and am tossing around the idea of having Night's Whisper in those three slots instead. Thoughts?
In regards to kurlath knight: I do like it, but isn't the goal to be killing off all of my enemies creatures with Black Sun's Zenith and Crumbling Ashes? Where do you think it would fit well?
Also, speaking of Crumbling Ashes, I am thinking about switching that down to three so I can run four Dismember. I like the auto destroy, but being able to kill off a problem creature on times other than my upkeep is great.
Lastly, NotaNetDeck, you are absolutely right, it is time to start working on a sideboard! I don't know much about B/G cards for sideboards, so I will lots of help with this. I was thinking for sure Vines of Vastwood would find a nice home there, also maybe Ranger's Guile as further protection against burn decks. Thoughts?
Thank you all for the feedback and help, this is getting to good places! Keep it coming. :D
Darkblast doesn't give a counter, sadly. Cause it would be good. And I've already got 4 Virulent Wounds in the deck. Thanks though! I almost want to add Scar just to get rid of the poison counters, cause they are pointless. But whatever. Haha.

My bad man, I'm a white mage at heart, I really don't do -1/-1 counters.

If you don't have Melira in your hand, you could also play Quillspike for some counter removal and buffing.

As much as I do love Flourishing Defenses it is just too pricey. If only it was a three drop it would get along well with Crumbling Ashes!
And Final_Origins, Quillspike is great, but it goes against my intended strategy. Having a card that is great until my strategy works just doesn't seem like it is worth spots in my deck. Good card though, and the colors would work perfectly!

The deck looks cool, not a fan of Dash Hopes though, because you don't have control over your opponent, they have control over your spell. I'd replace it with hand disruption and more removal. Also, Grave Titan is probably the best black finisher in modern, even more so than Phyrexian Obliterator, because it's 10 power for 6 mana.

One question: when Crumbling Ashes reads "destroy target creature", does it mean you can only destroy 1 creature with a -1/-1 counter, or any amount of creatures with a -1-/1- counter?

To my knowledge it would have to read "destroy any number of target creatures" for that to work... but if it did that would be epic!

I'd run Kulrath Knight instead of grave titan, little cheaper and synchs so much better with the deck.Incremental Blight is a little steep but late game its usually good for three kills. Blowfly Infestation+Crumbling Ashes is just too sweet to pass up

Etched Monstrosity would work nicely with Melira, Sylvok Outcast for a pretty nasty beater.

Seems to me like some green pump spells could take it over the top.

nushberrie that is a good idea in theory until you realize that Etched Monstrosity comes in with the -1 -1 counters. They aren't placed, they come in with him and he would still be a 5/5

@Final_Origins 121.5. If a spell or ability refers to a counter being placed on a permanent, it means putting a counter on that permanent while its on the battlefield, or that permanent entering the battlefield with a counter on it. So its works, just like etb effects work with Doubling Season

Cool, been toying around with a deck like this one myself, I love what you've done and you've given me some ideas, +1 :)
Have you considered Midnight Banshee?

Death's Shadow will pretty much end the game. A 1 drop 13/13 OP

Unfortunately Death's Shadow still gets the -x-x because that isn't from counters so melira can't prevent it. Otherwise that would be disgusting.

Those would not work in this deck because those aren't counters

I'm with hazphokksy on this one. I'd throw in Vines of Vastwood or similar combat tricks that enable Necroskitter to survive and steal a bigger creature in a heartbeat. Also, Dash Hopes is very unreliable.
What do you play as a sideboard? If you don't have one, it'd be interesting to make one.

... I don't play modern, so I have know idea what I am saying...
... have you ever thought Darkblast over Virulent Wound?
... I like it in case I'd ever need to reuse it. Cheers.
