Truly Creatureless —March 24, 2016

I went through and made updates to reflect what the physical form looks like and I have added categories to help me with tweaking.

It felt too wordy calling it an almost creatureless deck (had Auramancer and Totem-Guide Hartebeest for their enchantment value) and it would feel wrong to go ahead and call it that while those two creatures were still in it. Therefore I decided to trade them out so that I can truly call it a creatureless deck without any internal moral distress.

Since Narset can get stupid with a bunch of extra turns and combat phases, I have been very intent on building this deck using only cards I own. That is, I don't have a set of wishlist cards to find and buy for it like I do for other decks. I think following this philosophy is helping to keep my Narset build at a fair strength. It also makes sure this is one of my most budget-friendly decks.

I have a Narset deck too, and if I had to choose only a few cards to put in it would definitely be Steel of the Godhead and Aqueous Form. With Aqueous Form when you attack you can Scry away the top card before you get the 4 and plus unblockable! Steel of the Godhead goes without say. I'm happy to see that you have Soothsaying because many Narset builds are missing that amazing card. Good build. +1

Thanks for the suggestions! I've put them both on the maybeboard to keep an eye out for them. What do you think of having creatures? The few I have here are included for their interactions with auras, but is it worth having them or should I fill those places at some point with noncreatures?

Eh its really personal preference, I prefer to go without them because I want to be able to cast any spell that comes my way. But if you feel that creatures are good utility then go for it.

I have a buddy with a crazy Narset commander deck and in it he utilizes "take an extra turn" cards. He put in every extra turn card that exists in Jeskai colors and then little buffs like you have and mana rocks to make it happen even faster and it is nasty to play against and also a blast. You can find it here Elite Narset Owns All. Good luck!

Your mention of extra turn cards reminded me of a suggestion I got from someone else about extra combat phases. I think I'll take a look at some of these kinds of cards and consider them for the Maybeboard. Thanks!

I already have Time Warp, so that makes me feel like I'm doing something right. One of the aims here is very much to be a low-cost deck (consisting mostly of cards I already own) so my options may be quite limited for these kinds of cards but we'll see.

With 3 colors you need to work on the land base. If you go with super budget land base there are still many options. Amulet of Vigor is really helpful.

Terramorphic Expanse, Izzet Guildgate, Azorius Guildgate, Boros Guildgate

Also some rocks like the Izzet Signet help a ton.

Narset gets broken very quickly so you might want to watch how far you go with her.

Thanks Didgeridooda. I'll try to keep from getting out of hand with Narset. My wife and I did a first test with it last night against her Nahiri, the Lithomancer deck. When I told her how few creatures there are in this deck she thought she would hate it. However, by the time I got Narset out, I was already looking at half a dozen 5/5 tokens thanks to my wife's Cathars' Crusade and a cycled Decree of Justice. I don't have the mana rocks in it yet so I think they will go a long way in helping get Narset on the board sooner. I will continue to keep an eye out for cheap multi-coloured lands to include.

Fire Diamond, Marble Diamond, Sky Diamond, and Chromatic Lantern are also some awesome rocks to have.
