Hour of Devastation —July 12, 2017

Only one card from Hour of Devastation makes it for now: Scavenger Grounds. I am considering Torment of Hailfire as another win con card. I am not interested in including Bontu's Last Reckoning despite its 3 mana cost. A three mana boardwipe is nice but not at the cost of freezing up mana. If I really needed a 3 mana boardwipe, I would go for Toxic Deluge. Its payment of life is less severe.

Changes:

Swamp ---> Scavenger Grounds: With my meta I needed another way to shut down multiple graveyards. Even just having it out I imagine will act as a rattlesnake preventing people for getting too crazy with graveyard shenanigans.

Slayers' Stronghold ---> Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion: Double Strike is just a more useful ability to grant. It can help me help an opponent finish someone off. Or it can be used on one of my deathtouch creatures, like Marchesa, to make them essentially invincible in combat.

Terminus ---> Blasphemous Act: 6 mana is just too much for what Terminus does. Austere Command and Merciless Eviction are also 6 mana and are far more flexible. Blasphemous Act is usually cast for 1-3 mana meaning that I usually have mana to cast for other stuff. The deck has enough graveyard hate now that I think I can justify another boardwipe that destroys.

Angel's Grace ---> Batwing Brume: Angel's Grace was sometimes a dud in my hand. I like its split second speed but it was only useful when I was on death's door. Batwing Brume is another useful fog that also imposes some loss of life on the attacker.

Norn's Annex ---> Gossamer Chains: The Annex felt a little costly for its effect. I may revisit it but I wanted another pillow fort card that could be used politically, like Maze of Ith. Gossamer Chains fills that role. It can save me or be used to save a potential ally (for some repayment).

Tainted Remedy ---> Exsanguinate: Playing with Tainted Remedy I was reminded of why it was cut last time. It's too conditional. It hoses life drain decks but is completely useless against other decks. Don't really think it's worth a spot. The deck felt like it needed another win con card. I had removed Exsanguinate from another deck so I didn't feel too bad jamming it back in here. May swap out for Torment of Hailfire.
