Sideboard

This deck is a modified version of a mono blue control deck I made for Pauper. It didn't work in Pauper, it was too simplistic, didn't have card advantage often enough and couldn't deal with enough threats, so after a while I didn't enjoy playing it. I still wanted to play most of the cards and I realised it was a good shell for kitchentable Magic.

I took out some cards which were either OP or not too good. Downgraded a few spells. I needed some of the cards for other decks. Kept it a card advantage deck with counterspells, which makes it strong, but beatable. I decided that in this version all the mainboard threats will be sea monsters, so the deck got a sea monster subtheme. Kept the playset Tolarian Terror as the main threat and added 1ofs of 8 other sea monsters to make it flavorful.

I kept 7 of the 15 sideboard cards so this became my first kitchentable deck that has a sideboard (with this I brought casual sideboards into my system, so now some of my other decks have them too). I changed the sideboard in 2025 a bit, now it's only 9 cards.

This might be my most annoying kitchentable deck. Many players hate counterspells, but I've always loved these kind of decks. The cards in it are all commons except for 2 creatures. It will most likely be one of my stronger decks, but it's beatable. I was worried that it's too OP for kitchentable but when I played it's first game, my opponent had an Elf deck which beat the shit out of it. So I know it's beatable, therefore a legit part of my kitchentable collection.
