Changes and Overhaul —Oct. 17, 2018

Many of these changes are for cards that have been in this deck from the beginning. While it may pain me to see them go... Seeing as I bought foil/masterpiece versions of all of them. These changes should help the deck function even better than before and who knows some of these may even return.

Numbers match with replacements. OUT

  1. Misty Rainforest + Windswept Heath: Removed in favor of being able to fetch swamps.
  2. Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger: Removed as it's not really progressing the primary game plan. Might see if return.
  3. Verdurous Gearhulk: Removed due to lack of progressing of primary game plan. Might see return.
  4. Marionette Master: Removed due to lack of consistent triggers combined with a high up front mana cost and little immediate board impact.
  5. Dictate of Erebos: Replaced not due to lack of effectiveness but in favor of a more flexible option at a lower cost.
  6. Strionic Resonator: Removed due to lack of realistic curving plays facilitating copying Glissa triggers regularly. Could see a return if play shifts slightly.

IN

  1. Bloodstained Mire + Marsh Flats: Able to fetch swamps slightly helps cabal coffers if Urborg in not in play.
  2. Razaketh, the Foulblooded: Replaced Vorinclex as the tutoring can easily be done after bringing him in with Birthing Pod is easy and can usually result in a combo lock or massive advantage.
  3. Phyrexian Obliteratorfoil: The real all-star of this change, Obliterator can easily be cast in our two color deck due to good fixing and Urborg. He's a great deterrence against aggressive plays and can end a game if combined with Triangle of War. Only real drawback is difficulty bringing him back as it's not an artifact.
  4. Walking Ballista: Ballista has been wanting in for awhile now and the possibility of killing two+ targets before having to bring him back makes him very trigger efficient. An issue to keep in mind is mana investment as he can get expensive quick.
  5. Survival of the Fittest: Survival makes a return after being removed a long time ago. The reason for the return is while having a grave pact effect is good. Having two is not so much as we have no way of bringing enchantments back in case of a wipe. But because this list runs Butcher of Malakirfoil survival can at a more expensive cost work as a pact effect. In addition to getting the pact effect itself survival can lock by also getting one of our XX creatures and casting for zero. And that's not all survival is full of odd tricks that can catch someone off guard. Like being able to at instant speed discard a creature to get Soul of New Phyrexiafoil then discard the Soul and activate the graveyard ability of soul to give wipe protection for a turn. It may only be a one time use but that can really catch people off guard.
  6. Sword of the Animist: Replacing resonator for two reasons one more ramp is good ramp. Second being able to shuffle more often with Scroll Rack down helps a lot. And getting lands out of the deck helps more than one might think as long games are the bread and butter of this deck so dead draws hurt a lot more.
