4-0 TNM: Feels good! —May 19, 2015
Finally won my first standard tournament! The deck performed well, but there is still space for improvement.
The Games
-
2-1 against mono-black aggro. Lost first game badly with a slow hand, sided-in Kolaghan's Command and two-for-one him a few times thanks to it. Nearly lost the second game when he bestowed my Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury with a Gnarled Scarhide to prevent her from blocking. Interesting play!
-
2-1 against Green aggro splashing white for Dromoka's Command. Again, lost first game badly thanks to his perfect hand: Elvish Mystic into Boon Satyr into Surrak, the Hunt Caller into a bestowed Boon Satyr. I brought in my Valorous Stance but they only came up once. The two other games I manage to keep pressure up with Arashin Foremost.
-
2-1 in a mirror match (yes, there was actually another Mardu warrior deck!). Frankly, I believe he might have had the better deck, but he was forced to mulligan down to 4 second game and down to 5 third game. Still, he came far too close for comfort in the second game (he drew two Butcher of the Horde and one Bloodsoaked Champion, allowing him to gain 5 life each turn).
-
2-0 against Esper Dragons control splashing for Dragonlord Dromoka. I drew three Bloodsoaked Champion (and scryed one away) in the first 4 turns of game 1, so that ended quickly. The second lasted quite a bit longer. I was a bit mana-screwed in the early turns, but I had a couple of Duress in my starting hand, getting rid of a Silumgar's Scorn and one Dig Through Time. I managed to get an Athreos, God of Passage and one Outpost Siege out: the pressure was simply too much for him after that, though he did give a good show.
I also opened an Ajani Steadfast and one Bloodstained Mire in my victory packs. A good day all-in-all.

Making gods creatures isn't a necessity, it makes them easier to target anyway.

doctorsmegma, you're quite right. I used to run more removal, but with Athreos, God of Passage I am more creature-heavy than before. Alesha, Who Smiles at Death is back in.
I also tried running Blood-Chin Fanatic instead, for life-gaining purposes, but it just never felt right.

Seeker is great and all but you're not running enough spells to get the maximum benefit from him in my opinion. Id replace it with Alesha or Rabblemaster but thats just me. And a 4th bloodsoaked chamion.
