Reconquista —June 7, 2020

The Rule Committee has announced a rules change allowing commanders to die, get whatever death triggers they had, and go to the command zone!

Announcment on RC website

This change officially puts Elenda on the map of normal commanders. While I regret that playing Elenda is no longer "hipster" because of the rulings, I'm happy for the change and I welcome any and all new Elenda players into the fold!

No real changes to the deck are necessary here in response to the rules change, though I will have to re-think the potential mutate creatures, as now they serve a considerably less cool purpose.

I think the biggest thing effected here is gameplay. Other people's commanders dying now counts towards Elenda's ability, which is huge. I will also have more decision making to do in terms of rezoning her or leaving her in the yard after the death trigger. We will see how it all shakes out.

Thanks all! If you see new Elenda players feel free to send them my way!

Suns_Champion :O nice changes! Funny thing is I almost suggested Hatred too but thought it is such a good card you'd never remove it. Way to prove me wrong, lol.

This is an outstanding primer and beautifully done deep-dive on my favorite commander. Thanks for putting it together and keeping it updated - I've learned a ton!

You've given me a lot to think about, particularly with leaving out cards like Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat. I realized I have those/similar cards in my deck more out of inertia than anything, but they might be two steps removed from what Elenda really wants to do - more ancillary benefit than core strategy support. Hmm...

Obvious Ikoria stuff so far: The Ozolith, Bastion of Remembrance, Luminous Broodmoth

+1 for flavor!

So many suggestions already. I feel like Bog Witch is an underutilized card for reanimator. She's slower than many other cards for getting Haakon, Stromgald Scourge into the yard (and doesn't tutor him there), but also potentially can immediately pull him out of the yard. Also just a really good ramp spell for reanimator in general, imho.

That's all I got. Cheers!

Hey everyone! I'm considering the following Ikoria and C20 cards, would love to know everyone's thoughts:

First and most importantly: Mutate cards! See the new section in the primer about them and Elenda!

Next, some maybe great cards, or maybe just for fun:

Discuss!

Neat mutate catch, but is it worth it compared to cheaper Unhallowed Pact-style Auras?

I'm a big fan of Ozolith, esp. since it'll work with those few other +1/+1 sources you got

Coward_Token I'd say it's about even because of the buff, mutate effect, and the synergy with Haakon, Stromgald Scourge when Ashes of the Fallen is out. I'll give the edge to mutates. Plus I think the mutates are just cooler.

Yeah, with some thinking I agree. Also good catch on the recursion possibility. Still unsure about the Bat tho, it feels a bit underwhelming for a conditional CMC 6 spell. I get that there's a pretty good package of Hero's Downfall and Drake Umbra (kinda), but the former gets kinda awkward when you ideally want to constantly keep it ready in your back pocket for instant speed reactionary removal, while the latter is something you want to bust out a bit earlier in preparation for wipes.
