Maybeboard

Felt like building something, but haven’t had the time to sit down and create the usual ridiculous nonsense I typically make. Instead, I threw together something actually playable, if nothing too fancy. It’s a little different than most lists out there, so let’s see how it does.

Nothing crazy here. The splits are fairly close, so to supplement the and basics we run a few ETB: +1 life dual lands. If there’s one thing Pauper as a format desperately needs, it’s more variety when it comes to non-basic lands. Power creep, blah blah I get it, but we can do a little better than cycling or the odd life point bump. C’mon, Wizards.

The standard fare, optimized for the specific targets I’ve included. All blink spells hit creatures, so there won’t be any issues there. Flicker of Fate and Teferi's Time Twist can hit enchantments, so always prioritize that card type when casting those. Don’t forget that Ephemerate rebounds, because your opponent is unlikely to remind you!

Here’s what differentiates this list from other decks, for better or for worse. All blinking is done with immediate life loss as its goal.

Balemurk Leech and Grim Guardian profit off each other as well as any other enchantment or enchantment-creatures that enter play, pinging the opponent for 1.

Parasitic Strix’s ETB will invariably trigger as the odds of having a permanent in play are quite high.

Arrogant Outlaw will likewise find it fairly easy to fulfill the criteria for payoff.

These last two are the Power Plays.

Hopeless Nightmare will sap the opponent for 2 on its own, but stacks with Balemurk Leech and Grim Guardian—neither of which are Legendary, so any multiples of those in play will only stack the damage yet further. 2 points of life loss will quickly escalate to 4, 5 or potentially even more!

•The same holds true for Okiba Reckoner Raid   when in Saga form. Feel free to blink it perpetually, or let it flip into a 2/2 (which also stacks with Balemurk Leech and Grim Guardian :)

If you’re looking for a better, much more interesting take on the archetype look no further than Icbrgr’s brilliant Orzhov ETB Midrange—it’s a blast to play and way more robust than what I’ve cobbled together.

•Cast Balemurk Leech and Grim Guardian

•Cast assorted Enchantments designed to whittle down the opponent’s life total, flickering them to maximize damage output.

•Open your wallet, marvel at the copious greenery within, then smile knowing this game can indeed be fun without breaking the bank.
