So I'm trying to make a deck for my friend for his birthday and he likes Greek Mythology, specifically Poseidon, Hades, and Zues in this order. I'm wanting to stay in the Theros block and have 3 deck ideas but I need some advice and criticism because I don't want to make him a weak deck.

Here are what I've made:

The first one is using Heliod because I made this first and forgot there is a god that looks like zues but in MTG Heliod is the "Leader" or Highest ranking or whatever.

The second one is using Keranos and white humans so its 4 colors instead of 3.

The third one is sticking to the block and theme but also sticking to heroic and scry.

I have always been bad about including a safe amount of land in my decks so that is something i really need help with. I also wasn't sure if this was the best way to show the decks or if i should've just copy and pasted each text.

Also, how are your creatures treating you? Things like Soul-Scar Mage and Setessan Battle Priest are cute cards; though I struggle to see what mileage you’re getting out of Soul Scar Mage. You aren’t running much in the way of burn; so is he not a dead draw most of the time? Is his prowess the only thing helping you?

The obvious Heroic synergy is present with the Priest; though is her lifegain that relevant to you? Or is that a more meta dependent include?

I personally have been using Dreadhorde Arcanist to great effect as it allows me to start dumping hand buffs early without Feather support, benefit from the draws; and then pick them back up later. Also, and while I’m poking at your creatures; is there any particular reason you havent mentioned Zada, Hedron Grinder or Mirrorwing Dragon anywhere? Since you are using “janky” card draw effects such as Heal , I’m sure you would appreciate being able to draw a couple extra cards alongside your normal targets no?

Really like the inclusion of the Tethmos High Priest in your list and am struggling to find a place for him in my own list.

Hi Toxicnerve,

I'm a fan of Cauldron Haze, but one of it's more useful interactions is with creatures which have Heroic, cards like Setessan Battle Priest, Vanguard of Brimaz, Tethmos High Priest, Agent of the Fates and Triton Fortune Hunter. I deliberately avoided cards which add +1/+1 counters.

You could also straight run creatures that have Undying and Persist, though you would need to be carefull of the mana costs. On the subject of mana cost, your deck is skewed heavy 14 drops and 13 drops on 20 land isn't a great balance. I'm also not sure that playing to a tribe (zombies) does you any favours when you are looking to exploit Persist, lastly Solemnity is a core card to your deck, so should be a 4 of, you might also want to consider green over blue, mostly for Melira, Sylvok Outcast as a backup...

Ordeal of Heliod works great with heroic cards, i'd suggest Phalanx Leader or Setessan Battle Priest it also works good with Ajani's Pridemate if it already has 3 =1/=1 counters on it, because then it's basically just gain 1o life, i'd remove the 4 Sunbound for 4 Ordeal of Heliod

Auriok Champion maybe replace one of the lifelink cats

Pious Evangel  ^Flip same thing

Suture Priest same thing

Terashi's Grasp replace Cursebreak

Solemn Offering same thing but it also targets artifacts

I recommend replacing Setessan Battle Priest with Jeskai Student. ;D
