Satya, Aetherflux Genius

Legendary Creature — Human Artificer

Menace, haste

Whenever Satya, Aetherflux Genius attacks, create a tapped and attacking token that's a copy of up to one other target nontoken creature you control. You get (two energy counters). At the beginning of the next end step, sacrifice that token unless you pay an amount of equal to its converted mana cost/mana value.

Crow_Umbra on Commander bans, a year later

I wouldn't be surprised if The Command Zone or maybe The Professor revisit the bans closer to the actual 1 year anniversary. I think it would be an interesting topic to revisit, especially with the additional context of the Bracket system creation since then.

Of the three cards banned, Dockside was the most played in my playgroup, and there were a couple of Mana Crypts here and there. It seems like my group adjusted fairly quickly and moved on. I used to play Dockside in my Satya, Aetherflux Genius deck, and it was about as gross as you could imagine to get repeat copies of it. I swapped it out for some other creature with an ETB and haven't missed it tbh. The deck runs fine with out Dockside.

Moondrop on non-black commander search advice

Crow_Umbra thank you so much. I really like all your suggestions and if I commented on all of them we'd be here a while (which I could definitely do but for the sake of others) out of all of your suggestions I am really going for Satya, Aetherflux Genius. I've not thought of his ability like that and now i'm obsess about building a deck like that. it also remind me of utilising some of white and red's life gain and burn death triggers for when those creatures die and not attacking with them leaves you defenders and constant choice of etb triggers (he's going to make me feel like more of a mad scientist then genius, chaos incarnate here I come) he also allow me to put one of my favorite pet cards in the deck that synergise well and could work as a back up commander of sort Calamity, Galloping Inferno(curse you color identity) also if I a majority of those creatures are artifact creatures I could add Osgir, the Reconstructorfoil for kicks and giggles. again thank you and if you have any other suggestions for a deck like this please feel free to share.

I feel like I have a similar issue as you Moondrop, but for playing stuff in White/Green/Blue lol. I have a few recommendations from personal experience. The following are commanders that I currently have in my personal rotation, or have had built in paper at some point. All of them are pre-con commanders, so they already have decent starting point built in:

  • Gylwain, Casting Director - A new exploration of an Aura based strategy. What initially interested me about him was that his ability focuses more on playing creatures than loading up on Auras or Enchantments, which lent itself to playing a more "Go Wide" version Auras, compared to others which aim more to Voltron up a couple of big threats. I took him apart because I've play lots of Aura/Enchantment stuff and it's grown kinda stale for me, also managing Role tokens on board was a bit annoying at times. He's the least popular suggestion, currently sitting at 745 on EDHRec.

  • Nelly Borca, Impulsive Accuserfoil - Her pre-con is fairly decent out of the box, and most Goad and forced combat cards are fairly cheap. She's usually the commander I'll play first at any given session, mostly since she helps get the interactive juices flowing. I think she scales decently to whatever table she's at, and rewarding your opponents for hitting each other keeps things interesting. Nelly isn't super popular, as she is currently ranked 347 on EDHRec/

  • Osgir, the Reconstructorfoil - The first Boros commander that really piqued my interest. I don't have him built anymore, but he's one of the few commanders I'd reconsider bringing back. He was fairly popular around the time Strixhaven dropped, but I think some of that popularity has since faded as he's now ranked 401 on EDHRec. Given your affinity for recursion and reanimation, his ability is adjacent to that, and leaves a lot of flexibility for reanimating artifacts with ETBs like Solemn Simulacrum or Ichor Wellspring.

  • Satya, Aetherflux Genius - Speaking of ETBs, Satya is a really fun option for getting additional value out of creatures with ETB effects. His pre-con is more geared towards utilizing Energy, which are fairly cheap cards in general if you wanted to go down that route. I think most builds tend to focus on his Energy aspects and the ETB/Clone effects in conjunction with him are a bit more slept on by comparison. He's more popular than my other suggestions, sitting at 109 on EDHRec

Crow_Umbra on Doubling Season or Exalted Sunborn?

If you have a copy, I think you should give Exalted Sunborn a shot. It has the potential for explosive plays, given its Warp cost, which could still leave you mana up for interaction or other game actions. As you mentioned yourself, it would also have more synergy in your deck since it is a creature.

I recently slotted a copy I pulled into my Satya, Aetherflux Genius deck over Mondrak, Glory Dominus. I figured the Warp cost could lead to earlier token copying, & is its own form of protection until you're ready to cast it again on a later turn.

Crow_Umbra on Musashi's Mosh Pit [Primer]

Thank you for stopping by CommanderNeyo. I forgot to pick up an Ironwill Forger during my most recent round of pickups. I think it's a cool card, but I'm considering it a bit more for my Satya, Aetherflux Genius deck.

In regards to Mardu Siegebreaker, I was bummed it wasn't a Legendary. I brewed up a Rule Zero deck for it recently for funsies. I'm considering publishing it.

Thank you! I'm hoping we will record in the next week or two. I'm thinking my friend and will do our Tarkir review episode first. If you're interested, I can send you the link to our channel on Spotify. So far we just have an Episode 0 intro, & Episode 1 where chatted Brackets.

Crow_Umbra on Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, & Talent

Lol I've got my one copy of Dockside tucked away in my binder. I last had it in my Satya, Aetherflux Genius deck, it was about as filthy as you could imagine. I think if Dockside were unbanned I'd probably put it back in Satya or one of my reanimator decks.

Judith seems like a lot of fun! Definitely something new for Rakdos. Spellslinger is one of those archetypes that never feels quite right for me the times I've had one in rotation. Maybe I just haven't played the right one for me.

Crow_Umbra on Charge of the Marigold Brigade

Excellent build! Would you ever consider Clone effects for this build? I've been playing Satya, Aetherflux Genius recently, with a similar-ish emphasis on creature ETB effects, & also kinda brewing Zinnia, Valley's Voice. The redundancy is cool, but I can also see how Clone effects might compete for space with Blink effects.

Crow_Umbra on Zinnia fun

I started brewing Zinnia recently. I brewed Satya, Aetherflux Genius as just Value ETBs, & Energy is just a secondary support to keep around certain value creatures. Long-winded way of saying that the Zinnia deck I started brewing is basically just the Satya deck without the Energy support & a few other cards swapped out.

I think Zinnia wants lower curve creatures with value ETBs, so paying the Offspring cost feels fairly reliable. You could def do stuff like:

You can def get tech-y with your ETBs & tailor them to your meta. You can also add in a sprinkle of ETB blink effects to keep reusing your ETBs, like Felidar Guardian
