You can't sacrifice a 0/0 creature since it dies during statebased actions, sorry.
So you need to have Automaton in play to make it work.
Or, well. Defensive Stance, but that is not a card you want to be playing of you ask me.
If you feel like Arcbound Ravager and Mox Opal are too expensive. You can make a much stronger and much more consistant combo with many of the same pieces and without those in particular.
Making a better deck with cheaper cards are rarely a bad deal.
With cards like Thirst for Knowledge, Serum Visions, Muddle the Mixture and only perhaps Fabricate. You can set up the combo much easier and consistant. You can use Altar of the Brood as your win condition.
Then you should also add a little bit of control, like, Inquisition of Kozilek, Spell Snare, Remand, the boforementioned Muddle the Mixture and Dismember (Just examples)
Get a better manabase. you need better ways to produce black, it doesn't need to be expensive. Drowned Catacomb and a couple Swamp is a good start.
Finaly, get some threats. Grave Titan and Wurmcoil Engine comes to mind. and if you get a better mana base Massacre Wurm
