Discard in Standard?

Standard Deck Help forum

Hello, I'm your typical U/B player. Could someone help me with a sticky situation? I've been trying to throw together a standard discard and/or mill. Problem is... There are very few standard discard and/or mill cards.

This should be in the Standard Deck Help forum, not the Modern Deck Help forum.

You're in the modern forum, but for standard you cant run discard, but you can build a deck based around Sphinx's Tutelage.

It is how you said it - very few discard and/or mill spells. The best one being the Awaken spell.Maybe you could play Esper with Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper

There are a few decent discard spells, depending on the deck you're up against. Duress and Transgress the Mind are both really powerful against control right now, Despise is another option. Kolaghan's Command has a discard mode to choose from, and is a viable option for Grixis.

Unfortunately there is a lack of mill cards though. A mill deck would have to be centered around Sphinx's Tutelage and you would need to run Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip as well. Jace and Fathom Feeder could probably suffice for the creature package. Then you would need to just keep drawing cards, but it's still a fragile deck without enough other mill cards, which we don't have. Talent of the Telepath is about the best of it, and at 4cmc, it's not that great.

in addition to mpeach1's list, there is Fascination and Dark Deal. You may also want tutor cards like Sidisi, Undead Vizier or Dark Petition in your build to make sure you have Sphinx's Tutelage as it is the only card that can easily mill a player (although is susceptible to Orbs of Warding.)
